  1. 11. Distal femur fracture in the elderly patient

    Author : Martin Paulsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Distal femur fracture; Geriatric patients; Weight-bearing; Recovery; Secondary displacement; Minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis MIPO ; Fracture alignment; Fracture classification;

    Abstract : Studies on the epidemiology of distal femur fractures show a vast increase in low-energy trauma-associated fractures in older ages. Age-related changes in bones lead to loss of bone matrix and increased porosity, which entails an increased risk for fractures and different fracture patterns than in younger individuals. READ MORE

  2. 12. In-Plane Fracture of Paper

    Author : Johan Tryding; Institutionen för byggvetenskaper; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Byggnadsteknik; Building construction; Paper; Fracture energy; Strain softening; Localized damage; Fracture mechanics;

    Abstract : The in-plane failure of paper is studied in this work by means of a cohesive crack model from experimental as well as theoretical perspectives. Localized damage at in-plane tension of short paper strips is studied for low strain rates. READ MORE

  3. 13. Metabolomics, body composition and fracture

    Author : Rui Zheng; Karl Michaëlsson; Harri Sievänen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Metabolomics; LC-MS; sample quality; cohort; body composition; fracture; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi; Kemi med inriktning mot analytisk kemi; Chemistry with specialization in Analytical Chemistry;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I evaluated the impact of pre-centrifugation sample management on the plasma metabolome, providing verification for the protocol used in a study where I applied metabolomics to better understand the role of body composition in fracture occurrence using a large population-based cohort.  In paper 1, I applied untargeted liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) metabolomics analysis to plasma samples (n = 471) from healthy donors to predict and evaluate the effect of pre-centrifugation temperature and delay time on metabolomics data using a combination of random forest and generalized linear models. 4. 14. Hydro-Mechanical Behaviour of a Pressurised Single Fracture: An In-situ Experiment

    Author : Patrik Alm; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hydro-mechanical behaviour; hydraulic field test; transmissivity; effective stress; aperture; fracture stiffness; fracture; slug test;

    Abstract : Exploration of ground water resources, grouting, disposal of nuclear waste and extraction of geothermal energy are examples of activities which require consideration of the relationship between effective stress and transmissivity. However, this relationship is poorly understood and very few investigations have been conducted in field scale. READ MORE

  5. 15. Aspects of bone quality and risk assessments in fracture and elective orthopaedic patients

    Author : Camilla Bergh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fracture; Fracture incidence; Epidemiology; Mortality; Osteoporosis; Frailty; Spinal stenosis; Bone quality; Bone mineral density;

    Abstract : Background: Bone quality, bone strength, and bone remodelling are important in many orthopaedic conditions and can have an impact on fracture incidence, bone healing, implant failure, and different outcome aspects. There is relatively sparse information on fracture incidence and mortality both for all fractures compiled and for some of the individual fracture locations. READ MORE
