  1. 1. Falling Freely : Anselm of Canterbury on the Will

    Author : Tomas Ekenberg; Lilli Alanen; Mikko Yrjönsuuri; Calvin Normore; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Philosophy; Anselm of Canterbury; will; choice; action; free will; determinism; metaphysics; ethics; evil; Filosofi; Philosophy subjects; Filosofiämnen; teoretisk filosofi; Theoretical Philosophy;

    Abstract : This thesis clarifies the concept of will in Anselm of Canterbury in the context of his overall theologico-philosophical project. The will is central to Anselm's understanding of freedom of choice (libertas arbitrii), which he defines as “the power to keep rightness of will”. READ MORE

  2. 2. Attitude and Trajectory Estimation for Small Suborbital Payloads

    Author : Yunxia Yuan; Nickolay Ivchenko; Gunnar Tibert; Rafael Wisnewski; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; free falling; least squares optimization; unscented Kalman filter; Flyg- och rymdteknik; Aerospace Engineering;

    Abstract : Sounding rockets and small suborbital payloads provide a means for research in situ of the atmosphere and ionosphere. The trajectory and the attitude of the payload are critical for the evaluation of the scientific measurements and experiments. READ MORE

  3. 3. Free-Vehicle Benthic Lander Technology for the Study of Biogeochemical Processes in Marine Sediments

    Author : Anders Tengberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine sediments; benthic fluxes; incubations; chambers; in-situ; benthic landers; autonomous vehicles; lander technology; hydrodynamics; calibration; experimental design; Partial Least Squares PLS ; sensors; fugacity; oxygen; carbon; nitrogen; phosphorus; silica; dissolved organic carbon DOC ; total carbonate; recycling; burial; lander technology;

    Abstract : Various sediment sampling and incubation techniques were used to characterize benthic biogeochemical processes important for an improved understanding of the oceanic carbon cycle. Recent flux data from the Arctic Siberian shelf are revealing differences (often by a factor of ten) between areas affected by the big Russian river outlets (high fluxes) and areas with low influence from land (low fluxes). 4. 4. Investigating the origin of radio emission in nearby starburst galaxies via high-resolution metre and centimetre observations

    Author : Eskil Varenius; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; galaxies: individual: M 82; galaxies: starburst; galaxies: individual: Arp 220; stars: supernovae; galaxies: individual: NGC 4418; radio continuum: galaxies; techniques: high angular resolution;

    Abstract : Star formation and galaxy evolution are intimately linked together. A detailed understanding of the physics of star formation can help us explain how galaxies evolve into, for example, our present Milky Way. READ MORE

  5. 5. Regret and Risk Optimal Design in Control

    Author : Matias Müller; Cristian R. Rojas; Anders Rantzer; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Engineering sciences deal with the problem of optimal design in the face of uncertainty. In particular, control engineering is concerned about designing policies/laws/algorithms that sequentially take decisions given unreliable data.This thesis addresses two particular instances of optimal sequential decision making for two different problems.
