  1. 1. Sources of Arachidonic Acid in Platelets, Bone, Marrow and Gastrointestinal Tract

    Author : Li Zhou; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Phospholipids; Megakaryocyte; Lysophosphatidylcholine; Lipoproteins; Linoleic acid; Intralipid; Interconversion; Gastrointestinal tract; Plasma free fatty acids; Fasting; Dietary fatty acids; Desaturase; Cholesterol; Chylomicron remnant; Chylomicron; Arachidonic acid; Bone marrow; Platelets; Protein S; Prothrombin; Triglycerides.; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Abstract : This study investigates pathways by which the eicosanoid precursor pools in the platelets, bone marrow and the gastrointestinal (GI) mucosa are acquired and regulated, and in this context some aspects on the interaction between triglyceride (TG)-rich lipoproteins and platelets. 1. 2. 2. Effects of Free Fatty Acids on Insulin and Glucagon Secretion : – with special emphasis on the role of Free fatty acid receptor 1

    Author : Hjalti Kristinsson; Peter Professor; Birgitte Holst; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; FFAR1; GPR40; palmitate; lipotoxicity; islets of Langerhans; type 2 diabetes; obesity; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is still rising and even so in the juvenile population. Obesity is highly associated with increased risk for developing T2DM. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Free Fatty Acid Receptor GPR40 - expression and role in islet hormone secretion

    Author : Erik Flodgren; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; secreting systems; Endocrinology; GPCR; Glucagon; GPR40; Insulin; Free fatty acid; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a serious condition of growing proportions. Developing via an increasing imbalance between insulin sensitivity in the peripheral tissues and insulin release from pancreatic beta-cells, it ultimately renders the individual incapable of regulating the blood glucose concentration, e.g. after a meal. 4. 4. Free fatty acids and insulin hypersecretion studied in human islets

    Author : Jing Cen; Peter Bergsten; Miriam Cnop; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; free fatty acids; palmitate; human islets; EndoC-βH1 cells; metformin; sorcin; insulin secretion; mitochondrial respiration; ER stress; human transcriptome array; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Free fatty acid (FFA) levels are increased in many obese subjects. High FFA levels stimulate the pancreatic beta-cells but have negative long-term effects. In obese children with high FFA levels circulating insulin concentration is high early in life but decline with age precipitating the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). READ MORE

  5. 5. Lipid Composition and Deterioration in Light and Dark Muscle of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

    Author : Torbjörn Ingemansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Docosahexaenoic acid; lipid classes; fatty acids; muscle lipids; Palmitic acid; trout; differences; lipids; fish;

    Abstract : Nutritionally valuable lipids, including lipid classes and their fatty acids in light and dark muscle, have been determined and analyzed in farmed rainbow trout. Dark muscle was found to have a higher content of total lipids than light muscle, 7.3 wt% versus 3.0 wt%, which was mostly accounted for by neutral lipids, especially triacylglycerols. READ MORE
