  1. 6. Common variants in genes regulating free fatty acid metabolism and risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease

    Author : Martin Carlsson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiovascular disease; free fatty acids; genetics; UCP1; beta3-adrenergic receptor; beta2-adrenergic receptor; type 2 diabetes mellitus; FABP2; stroke; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : Abstract The present study evaluated genetic and metabolic factors influencing the risk for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) with special reference to increased concentrations of free fatty acids (FFA) in 1174 Swedish diabetic and nondiabetic subjects. Common polymorphisms in the fatty acid binding protein 2 (FABP2), the B2-adrenergic receptor (B2-AR), the B3 -adrenergic receptor (B3-AR) and the uncoupling protein 1 (UCP-1) genes were related to anthropometric and metabolic variables. 2. 7. Free Fatty Acid Receptor 2 - A G protein coupled receptor with unique signaling properties in neutrophils

    Author : Simon Lind; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neutrophils; G protein coupled receptors; Free Fatty Acid Receptor 2; GPR43; Allosteric modulation; Transactivation; Cross-talk; Biased signalling; Functional selectivity;

    Abstract : The overall aim of the PhD thesis was to determine the role of neutrophil pattern recognition receptors in the initiation and resolution of inflammatory processes. Neutrophil pattern recognition receptors such as the formyl peptide receptors (FPRs) and the short free fatty acid receptors (FFARs) belong to the family of G protein coupled receptors (GPCR). 3. 8. Diabetes and Coronary Surgery : Metabolic and clinical studies on diabetic patients after coronary surgery with special reference to cardiac metabolism and high-dose GIK

    Author : Zoltán Szabó; Folke Nilsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetes; heart; coronary surgery; cardiac surgery; myocardial metabolism; free fatty; Thoracic surgery; Thoraxkirurgi;

    Abstract : Introduction An increasing proportion of the patients undergoing cardiac surgery have diabetes mellitus, in particular type II diabetes. In spite of this, diabetic patients have received limited attention in this setting. READ MORE

  4. 9. Delivery of TypeIII Secreted Toxins by Yersinia pseudotuberculosis : the Role of LcrV, YopD, and Free Lipids in the Translocation Process

    Author : Jan Olsson; Hans Wolf-Watz; Ina Attree; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Yersinia; T3SS; translocation; YopD; LcrV; YLC; fatty acids.; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Bacteria that infect humans and animals face a hard combat with the host´s immune system and in order to establish infection, pathogenic bacteria has evolved mechanisms to avoid being cleared from the host tissue. Many Gram-negatives carry a Type 3 secretion (T3S) system that is used to deliver effector proteins (toxins) into host cells. READ MORE

  5. 10. Effect of Wood Constituents Oxidation of Unsaturated Fatty Acids

    Author : Alireza Salehi Movahed; Mats K.G. Johansson; Mats Johnssson; Karin Jacobsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Wood constituents; oil; oxidation; unstatured fatty acids; lignin; model lignin compounds; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : This work presents the mechanisms of free radicals in a model system between fatty acids oxidation process and wood components. The aim is to create a better understanding of new environmentally friendly materials for exterior wood protection. READ MORE
