  1. 21. The right ventricle in volume or pressure overload : Insights from novel imaging techniques

    Author : Aleksandra Trzebiatowska-Krzynska; Eva Swahn; Niels Erik Nielsen; Lars Wallby; Marcus Carlsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This study is inspired by the gap in knowledge regarding the timing of cardiac surgery and interventions in adult patients with congenital heart disease. There are many parameters used assessing right ventricular function; however, most of them have pitfalls. READ MORE

  2. 22. Detection of Biomolecules Using Volume-Amplified Magnetic Nanobeads

    Author : Teresa Zardán Gómez de la Torre; Maria Strømme; Peter Svedlindh; Mikkel Fougt Hansen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Magnetic biosensor; magnetic nanobeads; Brownian relaxation; padlock probe; rolling circle amplification; DNA detection; protein detection; Engineering Science with specialization in Nanotechnology and Functional Materials; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot nanoteknologi och funktionella material;

    Abstract : This thesis describes a new approach to biomolecular analysis, called the volume-amplified magnetic nanobead detection assay (VAM-DNA). It is a sensitive, specific magnetic bioassay that offers a potential platform for the development of low-cost, easy-to-use diagnostic devices. READ MORE

  3. 23. Pedicled and free TRAM flaps in breast reconstructions : a comparative study

    Author : Åsa Edsander-Nord; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : breast reconstruction; TRAM; pedicled flap; free flap; microdialysis; monitoring; flap circulation; flap metabolism; glucose; lactate; glycerol; abdominal muscles; trunk muscle strength; KIN-COM; quantitative sensory testing; tactile perception threshold; thermal perception threshold; breast volume; thermoplastic; quality of life; SF-36; esthetic evaluation; applanation tonometry;

    Abstract : The transverse rectus abdominis musculocutaneous (TRAM) flap is frequently used when autologous tissue is desired for breast reconstruction, and it can be transferred pedicled or free. The pedicled TRAM flap is elevated as a lower transverse abdominal flap with the rectus abdominis muscle attached in the epigastric area, by which means the deep superior epigastric vessels nourish the flap. 4. 24. Volumetric Analysis in Mechanical Behaviour and Physical Ageing of Polymers

    Author : Mats Delin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ageing rate; Gr neisen parameter; bulk modulus; KAHR model; dilatometry; Poisson s ratio; timescale; physical ageing; dynamic mechanical properties; stress relaxation; volume changes; creep; Doolittle s equation;

    Abstract : Volumetric changes associated with the deformation of ideal elastic solids depends on elastic constants of the solid and applied strain. Their magnitude is easily determined from the corresponding Poisson's ratios. READ MORE

  5. 25. Mass Conserving Simulations of Two Phase Flow

    Author : Elin Olsson; Gunilla Kreiss; Stig Larsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; free boundary; two phase flow; level set method; conservative; Numerical analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Abstract : Consider a mixture of two immiscible, incompressible fluids e.g. oil and water. Since the fluids do not mix, an interface between the two fluids will form and move in time. READ MORE
