  1. 21. Novel oil resistant cellulosic materials

    Author : Christian Aulin; Lars Wågberg; Derek Gray; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; oleophobic; MFC; cellulose; oil resistant; contact angle; XPS; SEM; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Abstract : The aim of this study has been to prepare and characterise oil resistant cellulosic materials, ranging from model surfaces to papers and aerogels. The cellulosic materials were made oil resistant by chemical and topographic modifications, based on surface energy, surface roughness and barrier approaches. READ MORE

  2. 22. Content and Distribution of Short-Chain Fatty Acids in the Hindgut of Rats Fed Various Sources of Indigestible Carbohydrates

    Author : Åsa Henningsson; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rats; red kidney beans; Nutrition; Näringslära; oligosaccharides; non-starch polysaccharides; resistant starch; dietary fibres; indigestible carbohydrates; short-chain fatty acids; fermentation;

    Abstract : There is increasing evidence that short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) formed by colonic fermentation of indigestible carbohydrates have beneficial physiological effects. Butyric acid is the main energy substrate for the colonic mucosa and has been implicated as important in the prevention and treatment of diseases of the colonic mucosa, such as distal ulcerative colitis and cancer. 3. 23. Live Biotherapeutics : importance of formulation and lyophilization parametersand an example of a clinical application

    Author : Nisha Tyagi; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In recent years, probiotics have expanded from their traditional classification as “health promoting food” to the development of live biotherapeutic products (LBP). Traditional probiotics are marketed as food/dietary supplements while LBPs are drug products intended for treatment or prevention of diseases. READ MORE

    Abstract : Materials based on wood can offer sustainable alternatives to fossil-based plastics and composites, and show interesting mechanical properties. However, the issue of their flammability is generally unresolved. In this thesis, eco-friendly, fire retardant clay-cellulose nanofibril materials are investigated. READ MORE

  5. 25. Characterization of IgY for Oral Immunotherapy and Prevention of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Infections in Cystic Fibrosis Patients

    Author : Elin Nilsson; Anders Larsson; Jane Burns; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Chicken antibodies, commonly referred to as IgY, have several properties that make them suitable for oral treatment of infections and there is essentially no risk for development of resistance. The overall aims of this thesis were to investigate Anti-Pseudomonas IgY as prophylaxis against infections with Pseudomonas aeruginosa for cystic fibrosis (CF) patients and to characterize the antibody treatment.
