2. Design and characterisation of terahertz Schottky diode harmonic mixers
Abstract : Efficient, compact, and reliable terahertz frequency converters preferably operating at ambient temperature are crucial for stabilising far-infrared optical sources. This thesis focuses on the design and characterisation of terahertz Schottky diode harmonic mixers for frequency stabilisation of quantum-cascade lasers. READ MORE

3. Modal Analysis, Dynamic Properties and Horizontal Stabilisation of Timber Buildings
Abstract : Engineers face new challenges as taller timber buildings are constructed. According to Eurocode 1-4, both horizontal deformations from static wind and acceleration levels shall be limited. Due to the low self-weight of wood, dynamic vibrations and acceleration levels cancause problems. READ MORE

4. Towards single Ce ion detection in a bulk crystal for the development of a single-ion qubit readout scheme
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis was concerned with investigating the relevant spectroscopic properties of Ce ions randomly doped in an Y2SiO5 crystal at low temperatures (around 4 K), in order to develop a technique and an experimental set-up to detect the fluorescence photons emitted by a single Ce ion. The aim of the work was to determine whether a single Ce ion (referred to as the readout ion) can be used as a local probe to sense the quantum state of a neighbouring single-ion qubit via a state-selective interaction between the readout and qubit ion. 5. Vibrational and Structural Characterisation in Two Perovskite Challenges: A Density Functional Theory Study
Abstract : The modelling of perovskites using density functional theory (DFT) can sometimes be a challenge with many different states very close in energy. In particular, the tilting of the inscribed octahedron, as well as the formation of electron polarons, leads to states with energy differences in the meV range. READ MORE
