  2. 2. Spatial Variation in Near-Ground Radiation and Low Temperature - Interactions with Forest Vegetation

    Author : Kristina Blennow; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; light interception; hemispherical photograph; growth; forest fragmentation; fluorescence; cold-induced photoinhibition; GIS; view factor; radiative cooling; frost protection; agro-climatic mapping; forest clear-cut; local climate; Microclimate; Physical geography; geomorphology; pedology; cartography; climatology; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi;

    Abstract : Low temperature has a large impact on the survival and distribution of plants. Interactive effects with high irradiance lead to cold-induced photoinhibition, which may impact on the establishment and growth of tree seedlings. READ MORE

  3. 3. Impact of moisture on long term performance of insulating products based on stone wool

    Author : Tomás Vrána; Folke Björk; Per Ingvar Sandberg; KTH; []

    Abstract : Demands for energy have been increasing in the whole world. According to higher consumption, the price of energy rises yearly too. This evokes usage of insulating products in a wider range. READ MORE

  4. 4. The zoo-geomorphological impact of fossorial rodents in sub-polar alpine environments

    Author : Bert Eriksson; Jan Boelhowers; John Östh; Hanna Ridefelt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; zoo-geomorphology; fossorial rodents; sub-polar; alpine; geomorphic work; ecosystem engineers; Physical geography; Naturgeografi; Geography; Geografi;

    Abstract : The geomorphological impact of small fossorial mammals (adapted to digging and living underground), such as rodents can be significant, and both their direct and indirect effects may contribute to landscape formation. This thesis is based on empirical field studies of two burrowing rodent species in sub-polar environments, namely invasive House mice (Mus musculus) on sub-Antarctic Marion Island and Norwegian lemmings (Lemmus lemmus) in sub-Arctic Abisko. 5. 5. Durability of sprayed concrete : steel fibre corrosion in cracks

    Author : Erik Nordström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Structural Engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Abstract : A combination of sprayed concrete technique and steel fibre technology gives obvious advantages when saving the work needed to place conventional reinforcement. In rock strengthening applications this is most accentuated. Sprayed concrete in general, made by skilled workmen, will generally be of high quality and good durability. READ MORE
