  1. 1. On direct hydrogen fuel cell vehicles : modelling and demonstration

    Author : Kristina Haraldsson; Per Alvfors; Dougal J. Nelson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical engineering; direct hydrogen; Proton Exchange Membrane; PEM; fuel cell; fuel cell vehicle; fuel cell hybrid vehicles; on-board hydrogen storage; Kemiteknik; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, direct hydrogen Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell systems in vehicles are investigated through modelling, field tests and public acceptance surveys. A computer model of a 50 kW PEM fuel cell system was developed. The fuel cell system efficiency is approximately 50% between 10 and 45% of the rated power. READ MORE

  2. 2. Bringing fuel cells to reality and reality to fuel cells : A systems perspective on the use of fuel cells

    Author : Maria Saxe; Per Alvfors; Angelo Moreno; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Assessment; CUTE; Demonstration projects; Emerging technology; Evaluation; Fuel cell buses; Fuel cell systems; Fuel cells; Hype; Interdisciplinary; Niche markets; PEM; Radical technologies; SOFC; Strategic niche markets; Sustainability; Chemical energy engineering; Kemisk energiteknik;

    Abstract : With growing awareness of global warming and fear of political instability caused by oil depletion, the need for a society with a sustainable energy system has been brought to the fore. A promising technology often mentioned as a key component in such a system is the fuel cell technology, i.e. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fuel Cells and Biogas

    Author : Lars Hedström; Per Alvfors; Peter Lund; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; air bleed; biogas; carbon dioxide; carbon monoxide; current distribution; dilution; efficiency; energy conversion; energy systems; experimental; fuel cell; fuel cell systems; PEFC; poisoning; reformate; SOFC; Chemical energy engineering; Kemisk energiteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns biogas-operated fuel cells. Fuel cell technology may contribute to more efficient energy use, reduce emissions and also perhaps revolutionize current energy systems. The technology is, however, still immature and has not yet been implemented as dominant in any application or niche market. READ MORE

  4. 4. Learning control for flex-fuel CI engine and fuel cell

    Author : Xiufei Li; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Flex-fuel CI Engine; Fuel Cell; Model Predictive Control; Learning Control; Adaptive Control; Gas System Model; Ignition Delay Model; Data-based Modeling; Gaussian process;

    Abstract : This thesis investigated the modeling and control problems in the context of the flex-fuel compression-ignition (CI) engine and fuel cell, which shows great potential in the transition from fossil fuel to renewable energy sources.The modeling parts included the flex-fuel engine combustion process and intake system, and the system scale fuel cell model. 5. 5. The Anode in the Direct Methanol Fuel Cell

    Author : Joakim Nordlund; KTH; []
    Keywords : direct methanol fuel cell; fuel cell; DMFC; anode; model;

    Abstract : The direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) is a very promisingpower source for low power applications. High power and energydensity, low emissions, operation at or near ambientconditions, fast and convenient refuelling and a potentiallyrenewable fuel source are some of the features that makes thefuel cell very promising.
