  1. 1. Plasma-Facing Components in Tokamaks : Material Modification and Fuel Retention

    Author : Darya Ivanova; Marek Rubel; Bernard Pégourié; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magnetic confinement fusion; plasma-facing components; plasma-facing materials; fuel inventory; erosion and deposition;

    Abstract : Fuel inventory and generation of carbon and metal dust in a tokamak are perceived to be serious safety and economy issues for the steady-state operation of a fusion reactor, e.g. ITER. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development of Encapsulated UN-UO₂ Accident Tolerant Fuel

    Author : Diogo Ribeiro Costa; Pär Olsson; Janne Wallenius; Simon Middleburgh; Magnus Limbäck; Denise Adorno Lopes; Ho Jin Ryu; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Accident tolerant fuel; UN-UO2 composite fuel; coating technology; powder coating; chemical vapour deposition CVD ; physical vapour deposition PVD ; UN spheres; spark plasma sintering; Kärnenergiteknik; Nuclear Engineering;

    Abstract : Accident tolerant fuels (ATFs) are designed to endure a severe accident in the reactor core longer than the standard UO2-Zr alloy systems used in light water reactors (LWRs). Composite fuels such as UN-UO2 are being considered as an ATF concept to address the lower oxidation resistance of the UN fuel from a safety perspective for use in LWRs, whilst improving the in-reactor behaviour of the UO2 fuel. 3. 3. Segmented HPGe detectors for post-irradiation examination of nuclear fuel : Design and demonstration in gamma emission tomography

    Author : Vikram Rathore; Peter Andersson; Erik Andersson Sundén; Ane Håkansson; Andrew Boston; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Segmented HPGe detector; Nuclear fuel; Post-irradiation examination; Nuclear fuel diagnostics; Gamma emission tomography; Gamma spectroscopy; Non-destructive fuel testing; Applied Nuclear Physics; Tillämpad kärnfysik;

    Abstract : Gamma emission tomography (GET) is a proven non-invasive technique for post-irradiation examination of nuclear fuel. In the past, collimated HPGe detectors were used for GET measurements due to their good energy resolution. READ MORE

  4. 4. Experimental Study and Modelling of Spacer Grid Influence on Flow in Nuclear Fuel Assemblies

    Author : Diana Caraghiaur Garrido; Henryk Anglart; Dominique Bestion; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spacer grid influence; annular flow; deposition; Lagrangian Particle Tracking;

    Abstract : The work is focused on experimental study and modelling of spacer grid influence on single- and two-phase flow. In the experimental study a mock-up of a realistic fuel bundle with five spacer grids of thin plate spring construction was investigated. A special pressure measuring technique was used to measure pressure distribution inside the spacer. READ MORE

  5. 5. Nanostructured Fuel Cell Catalysts

    Author : Marie Gustavsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : Nafion; thin film evaporation; model catalyst; electrocatalyst; acetic acid oxidation; oxygen reduction; colloidal lithography; PEMFC; screening; Pt; formaldehyde oxidation; methanol oxidation; nanofabrication; CO oxidation; polymer electrolyte; TiOx;

    Abstract : A long term challenge for society is to develop sustainable energy systems to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels and to decrease air pollution. This requires new alternatives regarding the supply of energy and increased efficiency of the future energy systems. Fuel cell technology is one such possible alternative. READ MORE
