6. Nanostructured Catalysts and Electrode Materials for PEM Fuel Cells
Abstract : The Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) is a promising energy converting technology for powering automotives and electrical equipment using hydrogen gas as fuel and producing water as the only exhaust. The active carbon-supported platinum catalyst present in the electrodes limits the maximum power generation in state-of-the-art PEMFCs due to platinum’s poor activity for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) taking place at the cathode. 7. Impact of Surface Structures onDeposition and Erosion in a Tokamak
Abstract : Fusion is a potentially unlimited and environmentally friendly energy source for human society in the future. However, along the way towards the application of fusion energy there are still unresolved complications. Among them, deposition and erosion are two critical issues. READ MORE

8. Avian migration: the role of geomagnetic cues
Abstract : The regularity and scale of bird migrations has impressed mankind for generations. Birds rely on an inherited migratory program to guide them during the journey; however, recent evidence suggests that additional external cues are necessary. READ MORE

9. Degradation Mechanisms of Heat Resistant Steel at Elevated Temperatures : In an Iron Ore Pelletizing Industry
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the different degradation mechanisms of the stainless steel in a travelling grate in a Grate-Kiln iron ore pellet indurator. The travelling grate is a conveyor belt that transports green-body pellets to a rotary kiln while the pellets are being dried and pre-heated to a temperature of 900-1100 °C by recycled hot air. 10. Migratory routes and stopover behaviour in avian migration
Abstract : Migratory birds, some small and light weight as matchboxes, engage in seasonal inter-continental journeys in order to take advantage of the long summer days and abundance of food at northern latitudes to breed and raise their young, and then escape the harsh winters by migrating to lower latitudes. This thesis deals with two important aspects of migration, the routes taken during migration and the birds’ behaviour at stopovers. READ MORE
