  1. 1. Fuel Cells and Biogas

    Author : Lars Hedström; Per Alvfors; Peter Lund; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; air bleed; biogas; carbon dioxide; carbon monoxide; current distribution; dilution; efficiency; energy conversion; energy systems; experimental; fuel cell; fuel cell systems; PEFC; poisoning; reformate; SOFC; Chemical energy engineering; Kemisk energiteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns biogas-operated fuel cells. Fuel cell technology may contribute to more efficient energy use, reduce emissions and also perhaps revolutionize current energy systems. The technology is, however, still immature and has not yet been implemented as dominant in any application or niche market. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fuel-efficient driving strategies

    Author : Sina Torabi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; speed profile optimization; fuel efficiency; neural networks.; energy efficiency; genetic algorithms; performance analysis; road grade estimation; mass estimation; vehicle platooning;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with fuel-efficient driving strategies for vehicles driving on roads with varying topography, as well as estimation of road grade and vehicle mass for vehicles utilizing such strategies. A framework referred to as speed profile optimization (SPO), is introduced for reducing the fuel or energy consumption of single vehicles (equipped with either combustion or electric engines) and platoons of several vehicles. Abstract : IPCC reported in its climate change report 2013 that the atmospheric concentrations of the greenhouse gases (GHG) carbon dioxide (CO2), methane, and nitrous oxide now have reached the highest levels in the past 800,000 years. CO2 concentration has increased by 40% since pre-industrial times and the primary source is fossil fuel combustion. READ MORE

  4. 4. On direct hydrogen fuel cell vehicles : modelling and demonstration

    Author : Kristina Haraldsson; Per Alvfors; Dougal J. Nelson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical engineering; direct hydrogen; Proton Exchange Membrane; PEM; fuel cell; fuel cell vehicle; fuel cell hybrid vehicles; on-board hydrogen storage; Kemiteknik; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, direct hydrogen Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell systems in vehicles are investigated through modelling, field tests and public acceptance surveys. A computer model of a 50 kW PEM fuel cell system was developed. The fuel cell system efficiency is approximately 50% between 10 and 45% of the rated power. READ MORE

  5. 5. Improving Wood Fuel Pellets for Household Use : Perspectives on Quality, Efficiency and Environment

    Author : Magnus Ståhl; Bengt Månsson; Johan Vinterbäck; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wood fuel pellets; sawdust; drying; pellet production; recirculation; quality; efficency; environment; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : Bioenergy is one of many contributors to reducing the use of fossil fuels in order to mitigate climate change by decreasing CO2-emissions, and the potential for biofuels are large. The wood fuel pellets are a refined biofuel made of sawdust, which is dried and compressed to achieve improved fuel and transportation properties. READ MORE
