  1. 1. Methods to quantify and qualify truck driver performance

    Author : Iulian Carpatorea; Slawomir Nowaczyk; Thorsteinn Rögnvaldsson; Wahde Mattias; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Driver performance; heavy-duty vehicle; fuel economy; fuel consumption; fuel prediction; truck driver;

    Abstract : Fuel consumption is a major economical component of vehicles, particularly for heavy-duty vehicles. It is dependent on many factors, such as driver and environment, and control over some factors is present, e.g. route, and we can try to optimize others, e. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fuel conversion and ash formation interactions : a thermochemical study on lignocellulosic biomass

    Author : Anna Strandberg; Markus Broström; Rainer Backman; Christoffer Boman; Maria Zevenhoven; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Char conversion; pyrolysis; devolatilization; ash transformation; biomass; fuel characterization; fuel composition; ash composition; silicate formation; carbonate formation; thermogravimetric analysis; micro-tomography;

    Abstract : Biomass is considered to be CO2 neutral, and to be able to reduce the dependency on fossil fuels the need for expanded and sustainable biomass feedstock is increasing. Ash-related problems are some of the most important aspects of this increasing use of new biomass assortments in thermal energy conversion systems. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fuel choice, fuel switching and improved cook stoves in Vietnamese households: Analysis, models and proposals for new solutions

    Author : Niklas Vahlne; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fuel choice; fuel ladder; cooking; Vietnam; developing; improved stoves; rural households;

    Abstract : A majority of rural households in the developing world use solid biomass fuels for cooking. This use has severe negative health effects, is often either expensive or time consuming, and contributes to global warming. READ MORE

  4. 4. Look-ahead control for fuel-efficient and safe heavy-duty vehicle platooning

    Author : Valerio Turri; Karl H. Johansson; Petros Ioannou; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; platoon; platooning; optimization; optimal control; model predictive control; automatic control; fuel efficiency; intelligent transport systems; automated driving; cooperative; dynamic programming; trucks; heavy-duty vehicles; safe platooning; fuel-efficient platooning; distributed model predictive control; MPC; vehicle-following; pulse and glide; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : The operation of heavy-duty vehicles at small inter-vehicular distances, known as platoons, lowers the aerodynamic drag and, therefore, reduces fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Tests conducted on flat roads have shown the potential of platooning to reduce the fuel consumption of about 10%. READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies of Cherenkov light production in irradiated nuclear fuel assemblies

    Author : Erik Branger; Sophie Grape; Anders Hjalmarsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DCVD; Cherenkov light; Geant4; Nuclear fuel; Nuclear safeguards; Fysik med inriktning mot tillämpad kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Applied Nuclear Physics;

    Abstract : The Digital Cherenkov Viewing Device (DCVD) is an instrument used by authority inspectors to assess irradiated nuclear fuel assemblies in wet storage for the purpose of nuclear safeguards. Originally developed to verify the presence of fuel assemblies with long cooling times and low burnup, the DCVD accuracy is sufficient for partial defect verification, where one verifies that part of an assembly has not been diverted.
