  1. 6. Applications of Laser-Plasma Acceleration

    Author : Kristoffer Svendsen; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; laser wakefield acceleration; betatron radiation; X-rays; X-ray imaging; phase-contrast imaging; VHEE; radiotherapy; radiography; fuel injector; tomography; beam focusing; atomizing sprays; nanowires; liquid mass; target normal sheath acceleration; applications; charged particles;

    Abstract : This thesis is dedicated to the investigation of laser-plasma particle acceleration concepts. Some of the work was focused on improving electron and proton acceleration for future applications, in terms of maximizing the particle energy and minimizing the divergence of the X-ray beams. 2. 7. Atom probe tomography of Zircaloy-2 exposed to boiling water reactor operation

    Author : Johan Eriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Nuclear fuel claddings; Zirconium alloys; Boiling water reactor; Clustering; Atom probe tomography; Radiation effects; Zircaloy-2; Dislocation loops;

    Abstract : Zirconium alloys are used as cladding tubes for the fuel in nuclear reactors. In boiling water reactors (BWRs), the alloy Zircaloy-2, which contains the alloying elements Sn, Fe, Cr, Ni, and O, is commonly used. READ MORE

  3. 8. Nanostructured Catalysts and Electrode Materials for PEM Fuel Cells

    Author : Kjell Wikander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PEMFC; mesoporous; alkylthiol; alkylamine; carbon; microemulsion; Fuel cell; surfactants; nanoparticles; electron microscopy; Pt; nanocasting; silica; cathode; phase transfer method; oxygen reduction;

    Abstract : The Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) is a promising energy converting technology for powering automotives and electrical equipment using hydrogen gas as fuel and producing water as the only exhaust. The active carbon-supported platinum catalyst present in the electrodes limits the maximum power generation in state-of-the-art PEMFCs due to platinum’s poor activity for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) taking place at the cathode. 4. 9. Numerical Analysis of Cavitation-Induced Erosion in High-Pressure Fuel Injectors: under static and dynamic lift conditions

    Author : Mehmet Özgünoglu; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CFD; Cavitation Erosion; Fuel Injector; Wobbling;

    Abstract : Fuel injection systems are crucial for all modern combustion engines. These systems often operate under very high pressures to ensure fast spray breakup for optimal fuel air mixing leading to efficient combustion in order to meet strict emission standards. READ MORE

  5. 10. Fast-Neutron Tomography using a Mobile Neutron Generator for Assessment of Steam-Water Distributions in Two-Phase Flows

    Author : Peter Andersson; Staffan Jacobsson Svärd; Henrik Sjöstrand; Stephan Pomp; Ane Håkansson; Michael Österlund; Bernhard Ludewigt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Void distribution; neutron tomography; plastic scintillator; transmission measurements; neutron detection; Applied Nuclear Physics; Tillämpad kärnfysik;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the measurement technique of fast-neutron tomography for assessing spatial distributions of steam and water in two-phase flows. This so-called void distribution is of importance both for safe operation and for efficient use of the fuel in light water reactors, which compose the majority of the world’s commercial nuclear reactors.
