  1. 11. The Effect of Different Perturbations on the Stability Analysis of Light Water Reactors

    Author : Victor Dykin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; BWR and PWR stability; stability indicators; propagating density perturbation; autocorrelation function; density wave oscillations; decay ratio; non-white driving force; damped harmonic oscillator; reduced order models; Green s function technique;

    Abstract : Neutron noise analysis techniques are studied and developed, with primary useof determining the stability of Boiling Water Reactors (BWRs). In particular, the role ofa specific perturbation prevailing in Light Water Reactors, the propagating densityperturbation, in the stability of BWRs and on the noise field of LWRs in general, isinvestigated by considering three topics. 2. 12. Noise Applications in Light Water Reactors with Traveling Perturbations

    Author : Victor Dykin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Green s function technique; transit times; decay ratio; cross-correlation function; void fraction; global and regional instabilities; propagating density perturbation; BWR stability; reduced order models; non-white driving force; local component; Monte Carlo; space-dependent neutron noise; density wave oscillations;

    Abstract : Neutron noise induced by perturbations traveling with the coolant of light water reactors (LWRs) is investigated. Different methods to simulate the effect of propagating perturbations are considered. The studies are performed in both open- and closed-loop systems and summarized in three chapters. READ MORE

  3. 13. Robust Platforms for Superconductivity : Disorder Robustness and Topological Density of States Peaks

    Author : Tomas Löthman; Annica M. Black-Schaffer; Carsten Honerkamp; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Superconductivity; Odd-Frequency Superconductivity; Nematic superconductivity; Topological Phases of Matter; Flat bands; Van Hove Singularity; Graphene; Twisted Bilayer Graphene; Rhombohedral graphite; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : We explore the connection between robust material platforms for superconductivity and the modern condensed matter physics paradigms of two-dimensional materials, topological states of matter, and odd-frequency superconductivity. Specifically, the recent discoveries of gapless topological matter and truly two-dimensional materials with graphene have greatly expanded the class of materials for which topology produces large, robust, even singular, density of states (DOS) peaks in the electronic structure that in turn are highly susceptible to new ordered states of matter, including superconductivity. 4. 14. New Approaches to Large-Scale Electronic Structure Calculations

    Author : Francesco Aquilante; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Theoretical chemistry; orbital localization; electron correlation; analytic gradients; Cholesky decomposition; density fitting; quantum chemistry; Teoretisk kemi; kvantkemi;

    Abstract : Recent years have witnessed a growing interest of the scientific community for the use of ab initio and density functional theory methods in theoretical studies of molecules containing many atoms. However, the `scaling wall' of some of the most accurate of such methods is often an obstacle for their applicability to systems of real-life interest, e. READ MORE

  5. 15. Juvenile birch in Sweden : Selected stem characteristics for interior and furniture applications

    Author : Josefin A. Nilsson; Åsa Blom; Jimmy Johansson; Nylinder Mats; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Betula pendula; Betula pubescens; wood density; birch bark; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Abstract : In response to the furniture industry’s growing demand for raw material, large volumes of juvenile silver birch and downy birch stems available from pre-commercial thinning operations in Sweden’s forests could offer solutions. However, such stems are not currently used on an industrial scale, and most research conducted on birch stems in general has neither focussed on young trees nor the potential use of the central stem part around the tree pith.
