  1. 21. Cardio-pulmonary function in familial amyloidosis with polyneuropathy : a clinical study of cases from northern Sweden

    Author : Bert-Ove Olofsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; amyloidosis; atrioventricular conduction; ECG; echocardiography; hemodynamics; pulmonary diffusing capacity;

    Abstract : Familial amyloidosis with polyneuropathy (FAP) was first reported from Portugal in 1952, but since then this syndrome has been recognized in many countries including Sweden. In this investigation cardiac and pulmonary functions in the Swedish variety of FAP were studied. READ MORE

  2. 22. Risk factors for autoimmune-mediated congenital heart block

    Author : Sabrina Meisgen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Placental transfer of maternal Ro/SSA and La/SSB autoantibodies during pregnancy is associated with conduction disturbances and inflammation in the developing fetal heart, termed autoimmune-mediated congenital heart block (CHB). Maternal Ro/SSA and La/SSB autoantibodies are the main risk factors associated with the fetal cardiac manifestations to date, however, the low recurrence rate despite persisting autoantibodies in subsequent pregnancies indicates that additional factors determine fetal susceptibility. 3. 23. BEN-solo proteins in genome architecture and function

    Author : Malin Ueberschär; Qi Dai; Mattias Mannervik; Nicola Iovino; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gene regulation; transcription; insulators; genome architecture; Polymerase II pausing; chromatin; Drosophila development; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Eukaryotic genomes are organized in a complex manner inside the nucleus of each cell. Chromatin insulators are DNA elements that help to fold the linear DNA fiber in three-dimensional space and partition regulatory gene units. READ MORE

  4. 24. Modulation of p53's transcriptional function by small molecules

    Author : Fedor Nikulenkov; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : p53 tumour suppressor is a transcriptional factor which induces apoptosis or growth arrest in response to stress thus eliminating damaged cells. p53 function is frequently abrogated in tumours either via inactivation mutations in the TP53 gene or by elevated activity of p53 negative regulators HDM2 and HDMX. 5. 25. From genes to function in autoimmunity : a salty story

    Author : Daniëlle Vaartjes; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Autoimmunity is a condition in which the ability to tolerate self breaks down, resulting in immune responses against the body’s own healthy cells and tissues. Autoimmune diseases are complex and multifactorial, and both genetic and environmental factors are known to play a crucial role. READ MORE
