  2. 7. Computational Insights on Functional Materials for Clean Energy Storage : Modeling, Structure and Thermodynamics

    Author : Tanveer Hussain; Rajeev Ahuja; Caetano R. Miranda; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Density functional theory; Molecular dynamics; Hydrogen storage; Chemisorption; Physisorption; Functionalization; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : The exponential increase in the demands of world’s energy and the devastating effects of current fossil fuels based sources has forced us to reduce our dependence on the current sources as well as finding cleaner, cheaper and renewable alternates. Being abundant, efficient and renewable, hydrogen can be opted as the best possible replacement of the diminishing and harmful fossil fuels. READ MORE

  3. 8. Egressibility : Applying the concept of accessibility to the self-evacuation of people with functional limitations

    Author : Erik Smedberg; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Evacuation; Egress; Egressibility; Disability; Accessibility; Impairment; Functional limitations;

    Abstract : The population is getting increasingly older, and old age is correlated with decreased functional capacity. In society, continuous improvements in accessibility of public environments is apparent. READ MORE

  4. 9. Cross-functional co-operation and networking in industrial settings

    Author : Åsa Gabrielsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : cross-functional co-operation; networking; prokuct realisation process; concurrent engineering; product development.;

    Abstract : The main process of this dissertation involves thedevelopment and refinement of a conceptual framework fordescribing and discussing cross-functional co-operation andnetworking within product realisation processes. The conceptualframework, the analysis of the case study and a discussion ofthe implications and challenges for research and industrialsector are the main results of the dissertation. READ MORE

  5. 10. Interfacial properties of calcium montmorillonite in aqueous solutions : Density functional theory and classical molecular dynamics studies on the electric double layer

    Author : Guomin Yang; Göran Lindbergh; Ivars Neretnieks; Michael Holmboe; Jan Forsman; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Clay minerals; Bentonite; density functional theory; molecular dynamics; GROMACS; electric double layer; electrolytes; ionic liquids; primitive model; CLAYFF forcefield.; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The swelling properties of Bentonite are highly affected by clay content and the clay-water interactions that arise from the ion distribution in the diffuse double layer formed near the charged montmorillonite (or smectite) surfaces. Existing continuum models describing the electric double layers, such as classical Poisson-Boltzmann and DLVO theory, ignore the ion-ion correlations, which are especially important for multivalent ions at high surface charge and ionic strength.
