  1. 1. Lighting Control Systems to Save Energy in the non-Residential Sector : State-of-the-art, Field Studies, and Simulations

    Author : Niko Gentile; Institutionen för arkitektur och byggd miljö; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Indoor lighting; lighting control system; lighting control; energy sav; energy eff; user acceptan; degree of acceptance; human factor; occupancy strategy; presence strategy; absence strategy; daylight harvesting; daylight-linked; daylight; photoelectric dimming; photosensor; manual switch; functional illumination; standby;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the energy-saving potential for lighting when using traditional indoor LCSs in non-residential buildings. In the study, an overarching theoretical framework is used that distinguishes between energy efficiency and energy saving, as well as between energy use for lighting and functional illumination. 2. 2. Functional and Flexible Light-Emitting Electrochemical Cells

    Author : Amir Asadpoordarvish; Ludvig Edman; Jun Gao; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; all-ambient fabrication; ambient-air lifetime; encapsulation; flexible; light-emitting electrochemical cells; light-emitting paper; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The introduction of artificial illumination has brought extensive benefits to mankind, and during the last years we have seen a tremendous progress in this field with the introduction of the energy-efficient light-emitting diode (LED) and the high-contrast organic LED display. These high-end technologies are, however, produced using costly and complex processes, and it is anticipated that the next big thing in the field will be the advent of a low-cost and “green” illumination technology, which can be fabricated in a cost- and material-efficient manner using non-toxic and abundant raw materials, and which features attractive form factors such as flexibility, robustness and light-weight. 3. 3. Imaging vision : functional mapping of intermediate visual processes in man

    Author : Jonas Larsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The human visual system is highly adept at recognizing objects independent of changes in viewing conditions, such as viewpoint, illumination, and partial occlusions by other objects in the visual environment. This invariance to viewing conditions is believed to be achieved by generating invariant shape representations from the variable visual input. READ MORE

  4. 4. Automating STED microscopy for functional and structural live-cell imaging

    Author : Jonatan Alvelid; Ilaria Testa; Eggeling Christian; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; STED; microscopy; nanoscopy; super-resolution microscopy; automation; image analysis; fluorophores; Biologisk fysik; Biological Physics;

    Abstract : Optical microscopy imaging methods are today invaluable tools for studies in life sciences as they allow visualization of biological systems, tissues, cells, and sub-cellular compartments from millimetres down to nanometres. The invention and development of nanoscopy in the past 20 years has pushed fluorescence microscopy down to the nanoscale, reaching beyond the natural diffraction limit of light that does not allow focusing of visible light below sizes of around 200 nm, and into the realm of what was previously only thought possible with electron microscopy. 5. 5. Structure and morphology control of organic semiconductors for functional optoelectronic applications

    Author : Jenny Enevold; Ludvig Edman; Thomas Wågberg; Christian Müller; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : The functionality and application of organic semiconductors are largely dependent on their constituent structure and morphology. This thesis presents a number of functional and novel approaches for the control and tuning of structural and morphological features of a variety of organic semiconductor materials, and also demonstrates that these approaches can be utilized for improved device operation of field-effect transistors, organic solar cells and light-emitting electrochemical cells.
