  1. 1. On the Relative Order of Adverbs in the I-domain: A study of English and Swedish

    Author : Fabian Beijer; Engelska; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Relativized Minimality; Starke 2001 ; Cinque 1999 ; Minimalist Program; PAROLE; BNC; functional sequence; functional projection; functional head; hierarchical order; Swedish; English; I-domain; AdvP; adverb phrase; adverb; adverbial; syntactic features; word order; merge; English language and literature; Engelska språk och litteratur ;

    Abstract : This dissertation is a theoretical and empirical investigation of the ordering of adverbs in the I-domain. Within the generative-minimalist framework, adverbs have traditionally been analysed as adjuncts, adjoined to the syntactic structure in semantically appropriate positions (e.g. Jackendoff 1972). 2. 2. The functional organisation of basal ganglia inputs

    Author : Yvonne Johansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The basal ganglia allow organisms to adjust their behaviour according to changes in their internal state or their environment. One essential prerequisite for the selection and execution of appropriate movements is the convergence of inputs from various sources, conveying sensory information, motor commands, reward value, and more. 3. 3. Genomics and bioinformatics approaches to functional gene annotation

    Author : Danielle Kemmer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Biomedical research has been undergoing a quasi-revolution with the dawn of the genomics era. The flood of sequence data from the various genome projects, the task of cataloging the entire coding portion of a genome instead of identifying and characterizing individual genes, as well as technical demands accompanying these developments have posed great challenges to the research community. 4. 4. Anatomical, neurochemical and behavioural consequences of immunotoxin lesions of the basal forebrain cholinergic system

    Author : Giampiero Leanza; Neurobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neural transplantation; reinnervation; axon growth; functional sparing; memory; learning; cortex; hippocampus; immunolesion; acetylcholine; basal forebrain; rat; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : The cholinergic hypothesis of geriatric memory dysfunction suggests that the learning and memory deficits representing the cardinal symptoms of dementia in the aged and in patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease may be attributable to a decline in the function of the cholinergic projection systems of the basal forebrain. Although many studies have addressed the issue of a causal relationship between cholinergic hypofunction and cognitive disturbance, analyses of the functional role of the basal forebrain cholinergic neuronal systems in the brain have so far been hampered by the lack of an efficient and specific cholinergic neurotoxin. 5. 5. Olfaction in Desert Locusts- Anatomy, Function and Plasticity of the Central Olfactory System

    Author : Rickard Ignell; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hist; serotonin; immunocytochemistry; juvenile hormone; development; olfactometer; intracellular recording; evolution; projection neuron; receptor neuron; antennal lobe; aggregation pheromone; neuroethology; olfaction; Desert locust; Schistocerca gregaria; Ecology; Ekologi; Entomology; plant parasitology; Entomologi; växtparasitologi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : The anatomy, function and plasticity of the primary olfactory centre, the antennal lobe (AL), of the desert locust Schistocerca gregaria was investigated using a number of neuroanatomical and neurophysiological methods. Anatomical characterisation of the AL in a number of orthopteran species made it possible to deduce a model concerning the evolution of microglomeruli. READ MORE
