  1. 21. Functional neuroimaging of dual task interference and divided attention

    Author : Priyantha Herath; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : It is known that human subjects cannot perform two reaction time (RT) tasks as efficiently as they would perform the constituent tasks individually. Increments of reaction times or error rates that occur when two RT tasks are performed nearly simultaneously is known as interference. READ MORE

  2. 22. Protein stability and mobility in live cells : Revelation of the intracellular diffusive interaction organization mechanisms

    Author : Xin Mu; Mikael Oliveberg; Johan Elf; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diffusive interactions; macromolecular crowding; protein thermodynamic stability; protein mobility; in-cell NMR; Hofmeister series; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Biochemical processes inside living cells take place in a confined and highly crowded environment. As such, macromolecular crowding, one of the most important physicochemical properties of cytoplasm, is an essential element of cell physiology. READ MORE

  3. 23. Brains, genes and environment of suicide attempters

    Author : Fredrik Vang; Lund Psykiatri; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; suicide; attempted suicide; self-injury; factor analysis; psychometrics; suicide assessment scale; cortisol; hpa-axis; hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis; depression; adjustment disorder; serotonin transporter; 5HTTLPR; adversities; negative life events; globus pallidus; caudate nucleus; SPECT; MRI; volumetry; dichotic listening; brain lateralization; functional brain asymmetry;

    Abstract : Identification of symptoms or biological abnormalities that predispose to suicide or identifies specific vulnerabilities, may one day improve allocation of resources or help tailor treatment to the patient. Paper I: We compared the predictive value of symptom-oriented questions against direct questions about suicidality in assessing risk for suicide attempts. READ MORE

  4. 24. Mobility Devices in Everyday Life among Very Old Europeans: Aspects of use and changes over time

    Author : Charlotte Löfqvist; Hållbar vardag och hälsa i ett livsperspektiv; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; assistive technology; Assistive devices; occupational therapy; participation; very old people;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to expand the knowledge regarding the use and need of assistive devices, in particular mobility devices, and to investigate how, from a European perspective, the use of them changed during the ageing process. An additional aim was to explore the use of mobility devices in everyday life among very old Swedish women during a five-year period. READ MORE

  5. 25. Ecosystem functioning in streams : Disentangling the roles of biodiversity, stoichiometry, and anthropogenic drivers

    Author : André Frainer; Roland Jansson; Brendan McKie; Jonathan Benstead; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; detrital food web; functional diversity; stoichiometry; nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations; recalcitrant carbon; spatial and temporal species distribution; pools and riffles; isotopes; leaf decomposition rates; land use; restoration; habitat complexity;

    Abstract : What will happen to ecosystems if species continue to go extinct at the high rates seen today? Although ecosystems are often threatened by a myriad of physical or chemical stressors, recent evidence has suggested that the loss of species may have impacts on the functions and services of ecosystems that equal or exceed other major environmental disturbances. The underlying causes that link species diversity to ecosystem functioning include species niche complementarity, facilitative interactions, or selection effects, which cause process rates to be enhanced in more diverse communities.
