  1. 11. Dissecting function and catalytic mechanism of fungal lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases

    Author : Bing Liu; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Fungi use a complex and well-orchestrated enzyme machinery to degrade lignocellulose biomass, in which both hydrolytic and redox enzymes are involved. Lytic polysaccharide monoxygenases (LPMOs) are copper-dependent enzymes that cleave bonds in polysaccharides using oxidative mechanisms. READ MORE

  2. 12. Soil microbial responses to mild winters and seasonal change

    Author : Johanna Birgander; Biodiversitet; []
    Keywords : Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi AMF ; RESPIRATION; Stable isotope; Fungal growth; PLFA; NLFA; Microbial community composition; bacterial growth; Aboveground-belowground interactions; Temperature adaptation; Climate change;

    Abstract : The aim with this thesis work was to study microorganisms response to milder winters, different seasons, and altered temperature. Winter warming treatments were established in a semi-natural temperate grassland, simulating mild winters for two years. READ MORE

  3. 13. Soil salinity as a driver of microbial community structure and functioning

    Author : Kristin Rath; MEMEG; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Soil salinization; Soil Microbiology; soil microbial community; Bacteria; Aerobic; Fungi; Drying-rewetting; Microbial growth; Microbial biomass; Soil respiration; salinity tolerance; Saline soils; Salinity gradient;

    Abstract : Soil salinization is a pressing agricultural problem in many areas of the world, particularly in areas heavily reliant on irrigation agriculture. While the negative effects of salinity on crop plants have been widely studied, its effects on soil microorganisms have received less attention, and the impact of soil salinity on both microbial community structure and functioning is not well understood. 4. 14. Fungal Redox Enzymes Involved in the Oxidation of Organic Pollutants

    Author : Enrique Terrazas; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biotechnology; Biokemisk teknik; Organic pollutants.; Environmental technology; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp; Biochemical technology; Laccase; Lignin peroxidase; Manganese peroxidase; Fusarium sp. strain BOL35; Biodegradation; Bjerkandera sp. strain BOL13; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : This work describes the degradation of nonylphenol, toxaphene, phenanthrene, benzo[a]pyrene and dyes using fungi and their redox enzymes. Two fungi, Bjerkandera sp. strain BOL13 and Fusarium sp. strain BOL35 were isolated from different geographic area in Bolivia. READ MORE

  5. 15. Ectomycorrhizal Fungal Mycelial Dynamics and its Role in Forest Soil Carbon Cycling

    Author : Andreas Hagenbo; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Most boreal tree species rely on root-associated ectomycorrhizal fungi for nutrient acquisition, in exchange the trees allocate part of their photosynthetically fixed carbon (C) to these fungi. This has a feedback on soil C dynamics as mycorrhizal fungi are important in regulating soil C cycling and storage. READ MORE
