  1. 1. Superabsorbent Polymers from the Cell Wall of Zygomycetes Fungi

    Author : Akram Zamani; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chitosan; cell wall; chitin; polyphosphates; dilute sulfuric acid; zygomycetes fungi;

    Abstract : The present thesis presents new renewable, antimicrobial and biodegradable superabsorbent polymers (SAPs), produced from the cell wall of zygomycetes fungi. The cell wall was characterized and chitosan, being one of the most important ingredients, was extracted, purified, and converted to SAP for use in disposable personal care products designed for absorption of different body fluids. 2. 2. Fungi-Based Biorefinery : Valorization of industrial residuals and techno-economic evaluation

    Author : Gülru Bulkan; Mohammad J Taherzadeh; Mats Galbe; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Techno-economic analysis; Organosolv; bioethanol; filamentous fungi; food; lignin; fruit; bioactive compounds; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning;

    Abstract : Sustainable development of society and industry is necessary for a safer future that is being challenged by environmental pollution, climate change, and scarcity of food and nutrition. Materials considered as waste can be converted into value-added products and energy, hence regained to the economy. READ MORE

  3. 3. Colonisation and PAH degradation by wood-rotting fungi in contaminated soil

    Author : Erik Andersson; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; agricultural hydrology; Soil Science; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; PLFA; PAH metabolites; PAH; degradation; contaminated soil; soil; brown-rot fungi; white-rot fungi; Colonisation; fungal growth; Lantbrukshydrologi; marklära; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Abstract : Bioremediation of soils is considered a low-cost alternative to other remediation techniques. Its ability to remove a number of different pollutants has been demonstrated, relying mainly on the activities of indigenous soil bacteria. READ MORE

  4. 4. Zygomycetes and cellulose residuals : hydrolysis, cultivation and applications

    Author : Patrik Lennartsson; Högskolan i Borås; []

    Abstract : Zygomycetes is a class of fungi living worldwide as saprobes, as part of mycorrhizae, and as parasites. Humans have used some zygomycetes for centuries in the production of traditional foods, e.g. Indonesian tempe. READ MORE

  5. 5. Filamentous fungi in wrapped forages

    Author : Jessica Schenck; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Wrapped forages of higher dry matter (DM) concentrations (> 50 %), also referred to as haylage are common in Sweden and Norway. Such forages are preserved by a combination of semi-drying and anaerobic storage leading to an environment that may affect the composition of filamentous fungi differently than in hay or silage.
