21. Trophic interactions in the tundra: Impacts of large mammal herbivory on carbon processes and fungal communities
Abstract : Plant productivity is generally increasing in the Arctic as a consequence of accelerated climate change. The change in plant communities may coincide with a loss of carbon from Arctic soils due to increased decomposition and respiration. READ MORE

22. Full circle : Rise and fate of genetic variation in Marasmius oreades fairy rings
Abstract : Genetic variation is a prerequisite for evolution. The degree of variability within a species is governed by forces including mutation, recombination and selection. READ MORE

23. Solar radiation effects on decomposition and decomposers of plant litter in lakes
Abstract : This thesis summarizes the results of a series of experiments, from test tube up to field study scale, performed to increase the understanding of solar radiation effects on decomposition and microbial decomposers of plant litter in stagnant water of littoral zones. In conclusion, I suggest that fungi play a significant role in the decomposition of plant litter submersed in lakes, and that their distribution is dependent on detritus quality and water chemistry, but also tends to be inversely related to the occurrence of bacteria attached to the litter. 24. Fungal Lectins. Molecular structure and function of a member of a novel lectin family
Abstract : Lectins defined as non-enzyme, non-immunoglobulin carbohydrate binding proteins, have been found in a wide variety of viruses, bacteria, fungi, plants and animals. Although lectins have been purified from more than 60 different species of fungi, the structure and biological functions of these proteins are not well known. READ MORE

25. Microbes Associated with Hylobius abietis : A Chemical and Behavioral Study
Abstract : This thesis is based on three inter-related studies: the first part deals with the microbial consortium, the identification of microbes and their volatiles, the second part deals with the study of bio-chemical control methods of two conifer pests; the pine weevil Hylobius abietis (L.) and the root rot fungi Heterobasidion spp. READ MORE
