1. Multi-Disciplinary Conceptual Design of Future Jet Engine Systems
Abstract : This thesis describes various aspects of the development of a multi-disciplinary aero engine conceptual design tool, TERA2020 (Techno-economic, Environmental and Risk Assessment for 2020), based on an explicit algorithm that considers: engine performance, engine aerodynamic and mechanical design, aircraft design and performance, emissions prediction and environmental impact, engine and airframe noise, and production, maintenance and direct operating costs. As part of this research effort, a newly-derived semi-empirical NOx correlation for modern rich-burn single-annular combustors is proposed. 2. Watt’s next? On socio-technical transitions towards future electricity system architectures
Abstract : In the effort to fight climate change, the electricity systems around the world are undergoing a transformation towards being based on renewable sources of energy. The criterion of one hundred per cent renewables can, however, be satisfied in several radically different ways, varying from global or continental super grids via local smart-grids to self-sufficient off-grid communities and households of electricity prosumers. 3. Home for future Earth lovers : Foundations of nature-connecting habitats for children
Abstract : Modern childhood is increasingly segregated from nature. Yet, children’s nature experiences are first steps for sustainable futures. In this thesis, I research the foundations of habitats that can connect children to nature. I call them nature-connecting habitats. READ MORE

4. Industrial Networks : Purposes and Configurations in the Circular Economy
Abstract : Today, it is common knowledge that mitigation of and adaptation to climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution require sustainability transitions. An essential sustainability transition, for mitigating and adapting to resource depletion, is the shift from unsustainable to sustainable production and consumption patterns. READ MORE

5. Hydrogen, an Energy Carrier of the Future
Abstract : The climate is changing, something that many scientists correlate to increased emissions of greenhouse gases. The effluent that is considered to have the highest impact on global warming is carbon dioxide, when effect and quantity are taken into account. READ MORE
