1. Enhanced District Heating Technology : Maintaining Future System Feasibility
Abstract : When heat demand and high temperature heat supply gradually decreases in the future, then it will effect district heating systems ability to compete on the heat market. A good way to mitigate less district heating feasibility is to operate systems with lower temperature levels and the most conceivable way to achieve lower temperature levels is to decrease return temperatures. 2. Multi-Disciplinary Conceptual Design of Future Jet Engine Systems
Abstract : This thesis describes various aspects of the development of a multi-disciplinary aero engine conceptual design tool, TERA2020 (Techno-economic, Environmental and Risk Assessment for 2020), based on an explicit algorithm that considers: engine performance, engine aerodynamic and mechanical design, aircraft design and performance, emissions prediction and environmental impact, engine and airframe noise, and production, maintenance and direct operating costs. As part of this research effort, a newly-derived semi-empirical NOx correlation for modern rich-burn single-annular combustors is proposed. 3. Arctic Offshore Hydrocarbon Resource Development : Past, Present and Vision of the Future
Abstract : Energy issues have always been on the global economics and geopolitics agenda, even though energy sources have been changing over time.In recent years, the awareness of Arctic offshore oil and natural gas development has escalated, yielding economic opportunities and incurring risks. 4. On the Low Frequency Noise in Ion Sensing
Abstract : Ion sensing represents a grand research challenge. It finds a vast variety of applications in, e.g., gas sensing for domestic gases and ion detection in electrolytes for chemical-biological-medical monitoring. READ MORE

5. Abstractions to Control the Future
Abstract : Multicore and manycore computers are the norm nowadays, and users have expectations that their programs can do multiple things concurrently. To support that, developers use concur- rency abstractions such as threads, promises, futures, and/or channels to exchange information. READ MORE
