  1. 1. Development of Substance P 1–7 Related Peptides and Peptidomimetics Targeting Neuropathic Pain

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Anna Skogh; Anja Sandström; Christian Sköld; Rebecca Fransson; Philip Thompson; [2018]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Substance P 1–7; Peptidomimetics; Solid-phase Peptide Synthesis SPPS ; Palladium catalysis; Carbonylation; Imidazole; Bioisostere; Neuropathic pain; Allodynia; Structure-activity relationships; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Abstract : The neuropeptide substance P 1–7 (SP1–7, H-Arg1-Pro2-Lys3-Pro4-Gln5-Gln6-Phe7-OH) and its amidated analogue SP1–7 amide, have displayed intriguing effects in experimental models for neuropathic pain acting on a specific, yet unknown SP1–7 target. The aim of this thesis was to design and synthesise SP1–7 related peptides and peptidomimetics, to be used as research tools to study the SP1–7 system, and to serve as drug leads in the neuropathic pain area. 2. 2. Drug-enhanced spinal cord stimulation for neuropathic pain : Studies on neurochemical mechanisms and clinical applications

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Clinical Neuroscience

    Author : Gastón Schechtmann; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2009]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acetylcholine; baclofen; cholinergic analgesia; clonidine; gabapentin; neuropathic pain; nerve injury; pregabalin; spinal cord stimulation; intrathecal drug;

    Abstract : Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is an effective surgical treatment for neuropathic pain refractory to pharmacological therapy. For many patients suffering from this type of chronic pain, SCS is in fact the ultimate treatment option. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sinomenine as a novel analgesic : mechanisms and applications

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Physiology and Pharmacology

    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Chronic pain of various origins is a major health care issue affecting a large patient population, also bring significant social and economic cost on the society. Work presented in this thesis concerns novel methods of treatments for chronic pain using experimental models. READ MORE

  4. 4. Neural growth : With special emphasis on adult neurogenesis and the effect of antiepileptic drugs

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery

    Author : Malin Almgren; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2008]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Neurons were for a long time thought to not renew themselves. In the 1960ies the phenomenon of neurogenesis was discovered, but it was not until 1998 that neurogenesis was demonstrated in humans. READ MORE

  5. 5. The analgesic mechanisms of buprenorphine

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Laboratory Medicine

    Author : Poli Francois Kouya; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2006]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Buprenorphine; morphine; cross-tolerance; g- opioid receptors; inbred mice.;

    Abstract : Buprenorphine, a derivative of thebaine, is a semi-synthetic opiate and a partial p-opioid receptor agonist. Buprenorphine is also a weak kappa-opioid receptor antagonist. Buprenorphine is used clinically as an analgesic and for maintenance therapy of opiate-dependent subjects because it produces limited withdrawal symptoms. READ MORE
