1. Drug-enhanced spinal cord stimulation for neuropathic pain : studies on neurochemical mechanisms and clinical applications
Abstract : Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is an effective surgical treatment for neuropathic pain refractory to pharmacological therapy. For many patients suffering from this type of chronic pain, SCS is in fact the ultimate treatment option. READ MORE

2. Sinomenine as a novel analgesic : mechanisms and applications
Abstract : Chronic pain of various origins is a major health care issue affecting a large patient population, also bring significant social and economic cost on the society. Work presented in this thesis concerns novel methods of treatments for chronic pain using experimental models. READ MORE

3. Experimental nerve injury : induced pain : mechanisms and modulation
Abstract : Chronic nerve injury-induced pain presents a therapeutic challenge since such pain is often resistant to conventional analgesic drugs including opioids. Better knowledge of the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying nerve injuryinduced pain is necessary to develop new and more efficacious therapies. READ MORE

4. The analgesic mechanisms of buprenorphine
Abstract : Buprenorphine, a derivative of thebaine, is a semi-synthetic opiate and a partial p-opioid receptor agonist. Buprenorphine is also a weak kappa-opioid receptor antagonist. Buprenorphine is used clinically as an analgesic and for maintenance therapy of opiate-dependent subjects because it produces limited withdrawal symptoms. READ MORE

5. Development of Substance P 1–7 Related Peptides and Peptidomimetics : Targeting Neuropathic Pain
Abstract : The neuropeptide substance P 1–7 (SP1–7, H-Arg1-Pro2-Lys3-Pro4-Gln5-Gln6-Phe7-OH) and its amidated analogue SP1–7 amide, have displayed intriguing effects in experimental models for neuropathic pain acting on a specific, yet unknown SP1–7 target. The aim of this thesis was to design and synthesise SP1–7 related peptides and peptidomimetics, to be used as research tools to study the SP1–7 system, and to serve as drug leads in the neuropathic pain area.
