  1. 1. Are gadolinium contrast media really less nephrotoxic than iodine agents in radiographic examinations? A comparison in relation to their ability to attenuate x-rays in a pig model

    Author : Barbara Elmståhl; Malmö Diagnostisk radiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Angiography; Computed tomography; toxicity; Contrast media; Glomerular filtration; Gadolinium; Iodine; Kidney failure; Nephrotoxicity.; Medicin människa och djur ; radiology; Clinical physics; Medicine human and vertebrates ; tomography; medical instrumentation; Diagnostik; Diagnostics; medicinsk instrumentering; tomografi; radiologi; Klinisk fysiologi;

    Abstract : Purpose: To confront the statement that gadolinium contrast media (Gd-CM) are less nephrotoxic than iodine contrast media (I-CM) when used in x-ray angiographic and computed tomographic (CT) examinations. Methods: I) For CT measurements (mean density in Hounsfield numbers) 20-mL syringes filled with I- and Gd-CM at 0.01, 0.02, 0. READ MORE

  3. 3. Magnetic resonance imaging, electroneurographic, and clinical findings in Bell's palsy

    Author : Mats Engström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Bell s palsy; facial nerve; magnetic resonance imaging; gadolinium; electroneurography; clinical grading; neurapraxia; nerve degeneration; prognostication; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Abstract : Seventy-two patients were examined in order to learn more about the pathophysiology of Bell's palsy and to assess the value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as well as electroneurographic and clinical tests in predicting the outcome in patients with this disease.In 12 of 20 patients (60%) an increased signal intensity in the paranasal sinuses was evident on T2-weighted MRI scans in the early stage of palsy, and in six of the positive patients the high signal intensity had disappeared by the time of the follow-up examination. 4. 4. Experimental studies of radiation-induced dissolution of UO2 : The effect of intrinsic solid phase properties and external factors

    Author : Alexandre Barreiro Fidalgo; Mats Jonsson; David Shoesmith; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oxidation; dissolution; uranium dioxide; gadolinium; bentonite; sulfide; hydrogen; gamma radiation; radiolysis; hydrogen peroxide; hydroxyl radical; repository; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Dissolution of the UO2 matrix is one of the potential routes for radionuclide release in a future deep geological repository for spent nuclear fuel. This doctoral thesis focuses on interfacial reactions of relevance in radiation-induced dissolution of UO2 and is divided in two parts:In the first part, we sought to explore the effects of solid phase composition:The impact of surface stoichiometry on the reactivity of UO2 towards aqueous radiolytic oxidants was studied.
