  1. 1. Synthesis of Conformationally Restricted Oligosaccharides

    Author : Michael Wilstermann; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Streptococcus suis; E. coli; neoglycolipid; ganglioside-lactam; xylose; methylene acetal; sialic acid; Conformational Restriction; galabiose; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Gangliosides are sialic acid-containing glycosphingolipids that often are present in increased amounts on tumor cells. Since the gangliosides are hydroxy-acids, they can form lactones. The lactones have been suspected to be more immunogenic than the open forms, but are in practise poor immunogens due to their ease of hydrolysis. READ MORE

  2. 2. Antiadhesive agents targeting uropathogenic Escherichia coli : Multivariate studies of protein-protein and protein-carbohydrate interactions

    Author : Andreas Larsson; Jan Kihlberg; Fredrik Almqvist; Mats Larhed; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic chemistry; Antibacterial; pili; antiadhesive agents; structure based design; statistical molecular design; 2-pyridone; amino acid derivative; galabiose; enaminone; SPR; ELISA; QSAR; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis describes studies directed towards development of novel antiadhesive agents, with particular emphasis on compounds that prevent attachment of bacteria to a host-cell. Three different proteins involved in the assembly or function of adhesive pili in uropathogenic Escherichia coli have been targeted either by rational structure based design or statistical molecular methods. 3. 3. Potent inhibitors of uropathogenic E. coli papG adhesins; Synthesis, conformational studies and biological evaluation of galabiose derivatives and synthesis of glycosphingolipid analogues

    Author : Jörgen Ohlsson; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; Glycosphingolipid analogue; PapG adhesin; Esherichia coli; Galabiose analogues; Inhibitors; Glycoconjugates;

    Abstract : The importance of carbohydrates in biological systems has become evident during the last fifty years. It is well known that pathogenic bacteria and viruses attach to glycoconjugates present at mammalian cell surfaces, and that this attachment is a prerequisite for the later stages of infection. 4. 4. Carbohydrate-Based Inhibitors of Pathogen Adhesion to Cell Surface Glycoconjugates

    Author : Henrik C Hansen; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Galabiose analogs; Globotriose analogs; Escherichia coli; verotoxin; PapG adhesion; Streptococcus suis; Dendrimers; Multivalency; Amino-deoxy analogs; Organic chemistry; Inhibitor; Ceramide analogs; Glycoconjugates; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : The fact that a growing number of pathogens develop resistance against traditional treatment is a growing medical problem. Infections, which until now have been harmless, might turn into life threatening diseases. These problems have led to an intensified search for alternative treatments. Analogs of cell surface glycoconjugates are an alternative. READ MORE
