  1. 1. Real-time breath gas analysis of carbon monoxide : laser-based detection and pulmonary gas exchange modeling

    Author : Ramin Ghorbani; Florian M. Schmidt; Anders Blomberg; Christoffer Boman; Staffan Schedin; Jonathan Beauchamp; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; carbon monoxide CO ; pulmonary gas exchange; computational modeling; real-time breath gas analysis; single-exhalation profile; laser absorption spectroscopy; nonlinear least-squares fitting; breath sampling; baseline level; diurnal variation; healthy population; exposure study; fysik; Physics; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : Breath gas analysis is a promising approach for non-invasive medical diagnostics and physiological monitoring. Real-time, breath-cycle resolved biomarker detection facilitates data interpretation and has the potential to improve the diagnostic value of breath tests as exhalation profiles carry spatiotemporal information about biomarker origin and gas exchange in the respiratory tract. Abstract : Gas detection is crucial in a wide range of fields and applications, such as safety and process control in the industry, atmospheric sciences, and breath diagnostics. Optical gas sensing offers some key advantages, compared to other sensing methods such as electrochemical and semiconductor sensing: high specificity, fast response, and minimal drift. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mid- and near-infrared NICE-OHMS : techniques for ultra-sensitive detection of molecules in gas phase

    Author : Thomas Hausmaninger; Ove Axner; Kyle Crabtree; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spectrometry; NICE-OHMS; trace gas detection; acetylene; methane; isotopologues; near-infrared; mid-infrared; shot-noise; optical parametric oscillator; teknisk fysik med inriktningen mikrosystemteknik; engineering science with specialization in microsystems technology;

    Abstract : Noise-immune cavity-enhanced optical heterodyne molecular spectrometry (NICE-OHMS) is a technique for ultra-sensitive detection of molecular absorption and dispersion. For highest performance, the technique combines cavity enhancement (CE) with frequency modulation (FM); while the former increases the effective interaction length between the light and the analyte by several orders of magnitudes, the latter removes the in-coupling of 1/f noise and makes the signals background free. 5. 5. Studies of MISiC-FET sensors for car exhaust gas monitoring

    Author : Helena Wingbrant; Anita Lloyd Spetz; Martin Eickhoff; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; field effect sensor; gas detection; selective catalytic reduction; lambda; cold start; ammonia; silicon carbide; engine exhaust; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The increasing size of the car fleet makes it important to find ways of lowering the amounts of pollutants from each individual diesel or gasoline engine to almost zero levels. The pollutants from these engines predominantly originate from emissions at cold start, in the case when gasoline is utilized, and high NOx emissions and particulates from diesel engines. READ MORE
