  1. 6. Hindered diffusion of nanoparticles

    Author : Ananda Subramani Kannan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Brownian motion; Hydrodynamic interactions; Multiphase DNS; Mobility; Langevin-immersed boundary method; Colloids; Aerosols; Nanoscale and Rarefied gas.;

    Abstract : Brownian theory provides us with a powerful tool which can be used to delve into a microscopic world of molecules, cells and nanoparticles, that was originally presumed to be beyond our reach. Consequently, modeling the inherent dynamics of a system through a Brownian transport equation is of relevance to several real-word problems that involve nanoparticles including, the transport and mitigation of particulate matter (PM) generated though fossil fuel combustion and nanocarrier mediated drug delivery. 3. 8. Nuclear magnetic resonance studies of water self-diffusion in porous systems

    Author : Daniel Topgaard; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diffusion diffraction; nonfreezing; anisotropy; tortuosity; cross relaxation; emulsion; starch; cellulose; porous material; water; NMR; self-diffusion; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) was used to study the self-diffusion of water in porous systems that respond to a change in water content in order to elucidate the porous structure and the properties of the confined water. In the carbohydrate systems cellulose fibers and starch granules, water is free to move throughout the porous objects, albeit with a rate reduced from the value of the bulk liquid, The reduction is related to the tortuosity of the pore space filled by water. 4. 9. Transport in Oxides Studied by Gas Phase Analysis

    Author : Qian Dong; Gunnar Hultquist; W.J. Quadakkers; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gas Phase Analysis; metal; oxide; platinum; vitreous silica; yttria stabilized zirconia; diatomic gas; oxidation; dissociation; permeation; uptake release.; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The transport in oxides is studied by the use of gas phase analysis (GPA). An experimental method to identify transported species of gases and their contribution to the overall transport of gases in oxides and an experimental method to evaluate the parameters diffusivity, concentration, permeability of gases in oxides and effective pore size in oxides are developed, respectively. 5. 10. Reducing Radon Gas Emissions in Concrete

    Author : Magnus Döse; Johan Silfwerbrand; Franz Josef Maringer; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Radon gas; emissions; health; concrete; building materials; ionizing radiation; Betongbyggnad; Concrete Structures;

    Abstract : Several compulsory regulations and recommendations regarding ionising radiation for building products have been introduced in recent years. Furthermore, industry-affiliated aggregate and concrete companies strive to implement environmental goals that should be fulfilled regarding building materials. READ MORE
