  1. 11. Development of Methods for Analysis and Optimization of Complex Jet Engine Systems

    Author : Tomas Grönstedt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; optimal control; variable cycle engine; performance analysis; double bypass variable cycle engine; jet engine; BDF methods; selective bleed variable cycle engine; turbofan; ODAE;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the development of GESTPAN (GEneral Stationary and Transient Propulsion ANalysis), a generalized system for the design, steady-state and transient simulation of gas turbine systems. Some of the main achievements in the thesis are related to the development of new algorithms or integration of existing numerics tailored to simplify the structure and use of generalized gas turbine simulation systems. 2. 12. Development of high temperature SiC based field effect sensors for internal combustion engine exhaust gas monitoring

    Author : Helena Wingbrant; Anita Lloyd-Spetz; Karin Larsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; field effect sensor; gas detection; selective catalytic reduction; lambda; cold start; ammonia; silicon carbide; engine exhaust.; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : While the car fleet becomes increasingly larger it is important to lower the amounts of pollutants from each individual diesel or gasoline engine to almost zero levels. The pollutants from these engines predominantly originate from high NOx emissions and particulates, in the case when diesel is utilized, and emissions at cold start from gasoline engines. READ MORE

  3. 13. Development of Zonal Models for Analysis of Engine Knock

    Author : Shahrokh Hajireza; Värmeöverföring; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; homogeneous autoignition; engine knock; Zonal modeling; SI engine; hot-spot autoignition; exothermic centers; wall heat transfer; application of detailed chemical kinetic mechanism of n-heptane and iso-octane; Motors and propulsion systems; Motorer; framdrivningssystem;

    Abstract : Autoignition in SI engines is an abnormal combustion mode and may lead to engine knock which is an undesired phenomenon in SI engines. It may cause damage and it is a source of noise in engines. Knock limits the compression ratio of the engine and a low compression ratio means low fuel conversion efficiency of the engine. READ MORE

  4. 14. Multi-Disciplinary Conceptual Design of Future Jet Engine Systems

    Author : Konstantinos G. Kyprianidis; Stephen O. T. Ogaji; Riti Singh; Herbert Saravanmuttoo; UK Cranfield University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gas Turbine; Intercooled; Recuperated; Turbofan; Future; Simulation; Performance; Aircraft; Emissions; Multi-disciplinary; Jet Engine; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis describes various aspects of the development of a multi-disciplinary aero engine conceptual design tool, TERA2020 (Techno-economic, Environmental and Risk Assessment for 2020), based on an explicit algorithm that considers: engine performance, engine aerodynamic and mechanical design, aircraft design and performance, emissions prediction and environmental impact, engine and airframe noise, and production, maintenance and direct operating costs.As part of this research effort, a newly-derived semi-empirical NOx correlation for modern rich-burn single-annular combustors is proposed.
