  1. 1. Water Curtains in Gas Storage. An Experimental Study

    Author : Carl-Olof Söder; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; analytical simulations; unlined gas storage; jointed rock; gas migration; gas containment; geo-hydrological test methods; hydromechanical breakdown;

    Abstract : Water curtains have been used for more than 20 years to prevent the escape of gas from caverns excavated in rock. Today, the use of water curtains appears to be increasing, with applications in various forms of storage caverns. READ MORE

  2. 2. Process Models for CO2 Migration and Leakage : Gas Transport, Pore-Scale Displacement and Effects of Impurities

    Author : Farzad Basirat; Auli Niemi; Karsten Jensen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geological Carbon Storage; CO2 leakage; Field experiment; Laboratory experiment design; Multi-phase flow; Heterogeneity; Wettability; Pore-scale modeling; Impurity gases; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Abstract : Geological Carbon Storage (GCS) is considered as one of the key techniques to reduce the rate of atmospheric emissions of CO2 and thereby to contribute to controlling the global warming. A successful application of a GCS project requires the capability of the formation to trap CO2 for a long term. READ MORE

  3. 3. Alternative methods for analysing moisture transport in buildings : Utilisation of tracer gas and natural stable isotopes

    Author : Kjartan Gudmundsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tracer gas; water vapour permeability; diffusion; surface diffusion; isotopic analysis; deuterium; oxygen-18; fractionation; vapour barrier; transient numerical modelling of diffusion; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : New methods, based on tracer gas measurements and isotopicanalysis can be used to evaluate the moisture properties ofbuilding materials and provide the means for forensic analysisof the origins and history of excessive water in buildings, theimmediate practical consequences of which will be the abilityto improve the moisture performance of constructions. It is shown, in theory and through measurements how thewater vapour permeability of porous building materials can witha good degree of accuracy be estimated with tracer gasmeasurements that provide an efficient alternative to the cupmethod. 4. 4. Light Propagation and Gas Absorption Studies in Turbid Media Using Tunable Diode Llaser Techniques

    Author : Liang Mei; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gas in scattering media absorption spectroscopy; tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy; frequency modulated light scattering interferometry; light propagation; Absorption spectroscopy; turbid media; diode laser; gas monitoring; porous media; ceramics; food packaging; Fysicumarkivet A:2014:Mei;

    Abstract : Optical absorption spectroscopy is a widely used analytical tool for constituent analysis in many applications. According to the Beer-Lambert law, the transmitted light intensity through a homogeneous medium is an exponential function of the product of the concentration, the total pathlength, and the absorption cross-section of the absorbing substance. 5. 5. Aging and heat-sealing properties of films based on wheat gluten

    Author : Sung-Woo Cho; Mikael Hedenqvist; Minna Hakkarainen; Mikael Lindström; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wheat gluten; aging; migration; opacity; heat sealability; shear strength; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : Recently the research interest of the possibility of using wheat gluten (WG) as packaging material has greatly increased due to its combination of high gas barrier, attractive mechanical, film-forming and renewable properties. The source is also readily available and inexpensive on a worldwide basis. READ MORE
