  1. 1. Modelling and Simulation of Turbulent Gas-Solid Flows applied to Fluidization

    Author : Eric Peirano; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : Eulerian models; fluidization; two-fluid model; two-phase flow; granular flow theory; turbulence; fluidized beds; gas-solid flows;

    Abstract : Modelling of gas-solid suspensions has been studied with emphasis on suitable closure laws. A study of characteristic time scales and energy dissipation mechanisms is made for the case of a simple shear flow. Applications of the modelling are presented in the form of simulation and validation of experiments in fluidized beds. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modelling elements in conversion of solid fuels - fixed bed combustion and gaseous radiation

    Author : Robert Johansson; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; combustion; fixed bed; modelling; solid fuels; gas radiation;

    Abstract : For a long heat and power production by combustion of solid fuels has time been an established technique. Environmental concern of emissions for NOx, SOx and other harmful species has caused an increasingly stricter legislation on the emission levels of the boilers. READ MORE

  3. 3. Modelling of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells Applied to the Analysis of Integrated Systems with Gas Turbines

    Author : Azra Selimovic; Kraftverksteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; statistical physics; plasma; plasmas; Gaser; fluiddynamik; Termisk teknik; termodynamik; Gases; fluid dynamics; applied thermodynamics; Thermal engineering; Hybrid Cycles; Gas Turbines; Mathematical Modelling; Electrochemistry; Fuel Cells; Solid Oxide Fuel Cells; thermodynamics; Matematisk och allmän teoretisk fysik; klassisk mekanik; kvantmekanik; relativitet; gravitation; statistisk fysik; Mathematical and general theoretical physics; classical mechanics; quantum mechanics; relativity;

    Abstract : Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), working at high temperatures with an incomplete fuel oxidation process, have become an interesting candidate for combination with conventional power generation technology, such as gas turbines, in order to develop power plants that are both functional and efficient. An absolute condition for successful analysis and optimisation of such plants is the existence of reliable simulation tools. READ MORE

  4. 4. Reducing Radon Gas Emissions in Concrete

    Author : Magnus Döse; Johan Silfwerbrand; Franz Josef Maringer; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Radon gas; emissions; health; concrete; building materials; ionizing radiation; Betongbyggnad; Concrete Structures;

    Abstract : Several compulsory regulations and recommendations regarding ionising radiation for building products have been introduced in recent years. Furthermore, industry-affiliated aggregate and concrete companies strive to implement environmental goals that should be fulfilled regarding building materials. READ MORE

  5. 5. Fluid Mechanics of Solid-Liquid Suspensions – An Experimental and Numerical Study

    Author : Torbjörn Virdung; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : multiphase; soalescence; confined jet; computational fluid dynamics; stirred vessel; laser doppler velocimetry; particle image velocimetry; solid-liquid suspension; pitched blade; gas-liquid;

    Abstract : Multiphase flows are common in many applications in chemical, mineral, biochemical and several other process industries. Examples of equipment in which multiphase flows are encountered are stirred vessels and multiphase jets, in which suspensions are agitated by an impeller in the former case and distributed through a nozzle in the latter.
