  1. 16. Terpenes Emitted to Air from Forestry and the Forest Industry

    Author : Ann-Margret Hvitt Strömvall; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gas chromatography; thermal desorption; anthropogenic terpene emissions; softwood; hydrocarbon emission; environment; phytotoxic photooxidants; adsorption sampling;

    Abstract : A major environmental concern with respect to hydrocarbon emissions is the formation of phytotoxic photooxidants. The work reported in this thesis focusses on the poorly studied anthropogenic terpene emissions from the industrial use of softwood. READ MORE

  2. 17. Speciation analysis of butyl- and phenyltin compounds in environmental samples by GC separation and atomic spectrometric detection

    Author : Dong Nguyen Van; Wolfgang Frech; Anders Cedergren; Erwin Rosenberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organotin speciation analysis; species-specific isotope dilution; inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry; single isotope spike; multi-isotope spike; redistribution; species transformation; preparative liquid chromatography; gas chromatography; line source atomic absorption spectrometry; continuum source atomic absorption spectrometry; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The main goal of the work presented in this thesis is to improve the reliability of existing methods for speciation analysis of organotin compounds Species-specific isotope dilution (SSID) calibration in combination with gas chromatography – inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry was used to investigate the transformation of phenyltin species during sample preparation. Isotope-enriched phenyltin species were synthesized from corresponding isotope-enriched tin metals. READ MORE

  3. 18. Ventilation/Perfusion Matching and its Effect on Volatile Pharmacokinetics

    Author : Moritz Andreas Kretzschmar; Anders Larsson; Jan Jakobsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anesthesia; Animal models in research; Mass spectrometry; Gas chromatography; MIGET; Ventilation-perfusion; Desflurane; Isoflurane; Bronchoconstriction; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Abstract : The mismatching of alveolar ventilation and perfusion (VA/Q) is the major determinant of impaired gas exchange. The gold standard for analyzing VA/Q distribution is the multiple inert gas elimination technique (MIGET), conventionally based on gas chromatography (GC), and, although simple in principle, a technically demanding procedure limiting its use. 4. 19. Volatile metabolites from microorganisms in indoor environments : sampling, analysis and identification

    Author : Anna-Lena Sunesson; Alvin Fox; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Adsorbents; Analysis; Cultivation; Determination; Gas chromatography; Identification; Indicator substances; Indoor air; Mass spectrometry; Metabolites; Microbial volatile organic compounds; Optimization; Sampling; Sick buildings; Thermal desorption; Aspergillus versicolor; Cladosporium cladosporioides; Paecilomyces variotii; Pénicillium commune; Phialophora fastigiata; Streptomyces albidoflavus;

    Abstract : Microorganisms are able to produce a wide variety of volatile organic compounds. This thesis deals with sampling, analysis and identification of such compounds, produced by microorganisms commonly found in buildings. READ MORE

  5. 20. New tools for sample preparation and instrumental analysis of dioxins in environmental samples

    Author : Lan Do; Peter Haglund; Staffan Lundstedt; Eric Reiner; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PCDD Fs; dioxins; pressurized liquid extraction; PLE; selective SPLE; modular M-PLE; soil; sediment; sludge; gas chromatography; new stationary phases; multivariate data analysis; selectivity; interaction; Environmental Science; miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs), two groups of structurally related chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons, are of high concern due to their global distribution and extreme toxicity. Since they occur at very low levels, their analysis is complex, challenging and hence there is a need for efficient, reliable and rapid alternative analytical methods. READ MORE
