1. BRST and Topological Gauge Theories
Abstract : In this thesis, the BRST-quantization of gauge theories is discussed. A detailed analysis of the BRST-quantization on inner product spaces is performed for a class of abelian models, including reparametrization invariant ones. General rules how to obtain physical wave functions and propagators are proposed. READ MORE

2. Some Aspects of Non-Perturbative Quantum Field Theory
Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to describe some different ways in which non-perturbative methods enter in quantum field theory. In the thesis such methods enter in 1+1-dimensional theories: various Yang-Mills theories and electrodynamics. It also enters when treating charged bosons or fermions interacting with an external, classical field. READ MORE

3. The Powers of Perturbation Theory : Loops and Gauge Invariance in Particle Physics
Abstract : The Standard Model is the best particle physics theory we have, but there are still phenomena that it cannot explain. In this thesis I have worked on two different projects that connect to two of the biggest unsolved questions of the Standard Model. READ MORE

4. Yang-Mills Theory in Gauge-Invariant Variables and Geometric Formulation of Quantum Field Theories
Abstract : In Part I we are dealing with effective description of Yang-Mills theories based on gauge-invarint variables. For pure Yang-Mills we study the spin-charge separation varibles. The dynamics in these variables resembles the Skyrme-Faddeev model. READ MORE

5. Properties of heavy rainfall in an East Asian monsoon catchment - Analysis of daily rain gauge data
Abstract : The East Asian monsoon has a strong seasonal effect on the rainfall regime of Eastern China. In order to mitigate floods and conserve the water for use throughout the year, dams and other hydro-structures are built. The design of the structures requires knowledge of the rainfall characteristics that influence the inflow to them. READ MORE
