  1. 6. Nano-particulate Silica Hydrogels Imaged in 2D and 3D using TEM: Effects of local pore structure on mass transport and applications in aggregation dynamics

    Author : Charlotte Hamngren Blomqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; silica gel; colloidal silica gel; interconnectivity; nanoporous; electron tomography; silica nanoparticle gel; mass transport; nanostructure; accessible volume fraction; 3D structure;

    Abstract : Porous materials are frequently used in everyday applications including food science, pharmaceuticals, fuel cell membranes, batteries and solar cells. A key aspect in these porous materials is how their micro- and nano-structure affect the internal transport of for example water, particles or charges. The transport is a three-dimensional process. 2. 7. Implementation of MRI gel dosimetry in radiation therapy

    Author : Sven Bäck; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oncology; Cytology; uncertainty; detector; dosimeter; ferrous ions; gel dosimetry; magnetic resonance imaging; monomers; polymerisation; proton; treatment planning verification; radiation therapy; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer;

    Abstract : Gel dosimetry was used together with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to measure three-dimensional absorbed dose distributions in radiation therapy. Two different dosimeters were studied: ferrous- and monomer gel, based on the principles of radiation-induced oxidation and polymerisation, respectively. READ MORE

  3. 8. Studies on fibrin gel structure

    Author : Kamaran T Fatah; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Fibrinogen; fibrin gel structure; plasma; thrombin; fibrinolysis; fibrin gel; zinc ion; plasminogen; crosslinking; acetylsalicylic acid; atherosclerosis; coronary heart disease;

    Abstract : Fibrin gel formation is the final result of interaction between multiple plasma proteins; as a result of activation, fibrinogen is converted to fibrin and crosslinking of fibrin occurs by activated factor XIII, which stabilises the formed clot. Fibrin gel networks were studied in purified fibrinogen systems and in plasma samples from patients with cardiovascular complications and healthy individuals, using light-scattering, turbidity, liquid permeation and confocal 3D microscopy techniques. 4. 9. Solid-phase glycoconjugate synthesis : on-resin analysis with gel-phase ¹9F NMR spectroscopy

    Author : Mickael Mogemark; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic chemistry; Solid-phase synthesis; protective groups; linkers; monitoring; gel-phase; 19F NMR spectroscopy; carbohydrates; oligosaccharides; glycopeptides; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : An efficient and versatile non-destructive method to analyze the progress of solid-phase glycoconjugate synthesis with gel-phase 19F NMR spectroscopy is described. The method relies on use of fluorinated linkers and building blocks carrying fluorinated protective groups. READ MORE

    Abstract : The thesis concerns polyelectrolyte gels in contact with oppositely charged proteins and surfactant micelles, and includes of four papers (I-IV). In paper I confocal Raman spectroscopy was introduced as a method to trace micelles and investigate the structure of gel-surfactant complexes, in phase separated gel spheres. READ MORE
