16. Exploring Coagulation Properties in Bovine Milk Using Milk Genomics Approaches
Abstract : Swedish Red (SR) dairy cattle is the second most common breed in Sweden and hence SR milk quality is crucial for the nutritional value and the processability of the milk delivered to the Swedish dairies. This thesis will give an insight into the quality of milk from SR cows and it will illuminate the possibilities for improvements of both breeding programs and the quality of different dairy products, focusing on cheese characteristics. 17. Microstructure and Gelation Behaviour of High Methoxyl and Low Methoxyl Pectin Gels and their Mixtures
Abstract : The objective of this thesis was to explore the functional behaviour of high methoxyl (HM), low methoxyl (LM) and mixed HM/LM pectin gels of different chemical characteristics with emphasis on microstructure and kinetic rheological behaviour. The rheological properties and the structure of pectin gel networks were investigated for pectins under different sucrose, calcium and pH conditions by the means of oscillatory measurements and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). 18. Physico-Chemical Properties of Plant Polysaccharides Investigated with NMR Techniques
Abstract : In the lead of developing new biomaterials from plant sources it is of importance to be able to control and vary the properties, such as flexibility, strength, and hygroscopicity of the final material. These properties are highly directed by the interactions between constituents on a molecular level. READ MORE

19. Evaluation of Capillary Flow in Gels - The Liquid Uptake of Capillaries and Gelation Mechanisms in Alginate Gels
Abstract : For centuries it has been known that wetting liquids penetrate porous materials if the pores are sufficiently small. In some cases the liquid penetration is desired, like in kitchen paper or diapers, in other systems the penetration should be minimised or avoided, like in water repellent textiles or paper printing. 20. Controlled release gel formulations and preclinical screening of drug candidates
Abstract : Simple gel formulations may be applied to enhance the systemic and local exposure of potential compounds. The aim of this thesis is the development and characterization of controlled release formulations based on thermo-reversible poloxamer gels, which are suitable for novel drug delivery applications.
