21. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Methods to Study Soft Matter Dynamics and Microstructure
Abstract : Soft matter is of great importance for food, hygiene and pharmaceutical products. Gels are an example of soft matter and are found in e.g. diapers, that are able to take up large amounts of liquids. READ MORE

22. Structure and Dynamics of Silica Dispersions and Gels
Abstract : This thesis deal with the sol-gel transition of two quite different systems, both based on silica. The overall aim is to understand what interactions lead to this sol-gel transition and how the structure and dynamics change as a result of this. The first project concern the gelation of water glass, also known as alkaline sodium silicate solutions. 23. Cellulose nanofibril materials with controlled structure : the influence of colloidal interactions
Abstract : Nanoparticles are very interesting components. Due to their very large specific surface area they possess properties in between molecules and macroscopic materials. In addition, a material built up of hierarchically assembled nanoparticles could obtain unique properties, not possessed by the nanoparticles themself. READ MORE

24. Studies on fibrin gel structure
Abstract : Fibrin gel formation is the final result of interaction between multiple plasma proteins; as a result of activation, fibrinogen is converted to fibrin and crosslinking of fibrin occurs by activated factor XIII, which stabilises the formed clot. Fibrin gel networks were studied in purified fibrinogen systems and in plasma samples from patients with cardiovascular complications and healthy individuals, using light-scattering, turbidity, liquid permeation and confocal 3D microscopy techniques. 25. Superabsorbent Polymers from the Cell Wall of Zygomycetes Fungi
Abstract : The present thesis presents new renewable, antimicrobial and biodegradable superabsorbent polymers (SAPs), produced from the cell wall of zygomycetes fungi. The cell wall was characterized and chitosan, being one of the most important ingredients, was extracted, purified, and converted to SAP for use in disposable personal care products designed for absorption of different body fluids.
