  1. 1. Gene Expression Studies of Hematologic Malignacies

    Author : Anna Andersson; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular fluids; Haematology; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; oncology; Cytology; acute myeloid leukemia; acute lymphoblastic leukemia; normal hematopoietic cells; cDNA microarray; gene expression profiling; hematopoiesis; pediatric leukemia; fusion gene; Pediatrics; Pediatri; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; cancerology; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : The general aim of this thesis was to characterize hematologic malignancies using gene expression profiling in order to obtain an improved classification and to study deregulated transcriptional networks in leukemia. In the first study (Article I), the gene expression profiles of hematologic cell lines were analyzed to investigate whether such cell lines maintain expression profiles that are characteristic of their primary genetic changes. 2. 2. Gene Expression in Cancer Cells : Detection of Splice Variants, Allele-specific Expression and DNA Methylation

    Author : Lili Milani; Ann-Christine Syvänen; Thomas R. Gingeras; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The human genome sequencing project has provided a wealth of information on sequence variation between individuals. The surprisingly low number of genes in the human genome is compensated for by a complex regulation of gene expression. READ MORE

  3. 3. Gene and protein expression in denervated atrophic and hypertrophic skeletal muscle

    Author : Marlene Norrby; Sven Tågerud; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Skeletal muscle; Denervation; Hypertrophy; Atrophy; Gene expression; Protein expression; Protein phosphorylation; NIFK; Wnt; MK2; Akt signaling;

    Abstract : Following denervation skeletal muscles change their functional and structural properties. Some changes resemble conditions in developing muscles and may be important for reinnervation. Due to inactivity following denervation most skeletal muscles loose muscle mass and become atrophic. READ MORE

  4. 4. Gene Expression and DNA Methylation in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

    Author : Jessica Nordlund; Syvänen Ann-Christine; Xavier Estivill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Digital gene expression; Allele-specific gene expression; DNA methylation; Epigenetics; Acute lymphoblastic leukemia; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Abstract : Pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common malignancy in children, which results from the malignant transformation of progenitor cells in the bone marrow into leukemic cells. The precise mechanisms for this transformation are not well defined, however recent studies suggest that aberrant regulation of gene expression or DNA methylation may play an important role. 5. 5. Sexual Conflict and Gene Expression in Drosophila melanogaster

    Author : Paolo Innocenti; Edward Morrow; Göran Arnqvist; Andrew G Clark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sexual conflict; sexual selection; male-female coevolution; gene expression; transcriptome; microarrays; sexual dimorphism; Drosophila; Biology; Biologi; Biologi med inriktning mot zooekologi; Biology with specialization in Animal Ecology; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Abstract : Sexual conflict is broadly defined as a conflict between the evolutionary interests of the two sexes. Depending on the genetic architecture of the traits involved, it can occur at the level of male-female interactions or take the form of selection acting to change the mean of a shared trait against the sign of its genetic correlation.
