  1. 1. Regulation of gene expression in fruit flies : how does it start, and will it be remembered?

    Author : Aman Zare; Per Stenberg; Yuri B. Schwartz; Åsa Rasmuson-Lestander; Guillaume Filion; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila; epigenetics; transcription; gene regulation; transcription maintenance; CBP; polymerase pausing; Polycomb group proteins; transgenerational inheritance of transcriptional response; gut microbiome; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : One of the most distinctive features of eukaryotic chromosomes is the bundling of DNA together with functionally associated RNA and proteins in chromatin. This allows huge amounts of DNA to be packed inside the very tiny space of the nucleus, and alterations in the structure of chromatin enable access to the DNA for transcription (“reading” genes by production of RNA copies). 2. 2. From Single Gene to Whole Genome Studies of Human Transcription Regulation

    Author : Alvaro Rada-Iglesias; Claes Wadelius; Henk Stunnenberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Genetics; transcription; ChIP-chip; genome-wide; transcription factors; in vivo; Genetik;

    Abstract : Transcriptional regulation largely determines which proteins and the protein levels that are found in a cell, and this is crucial in development, differentiation and responses to environmental stimuli. The major effectors of transcriptional regulation are a group of proteins known as transcription factors, which importance is supported by their frequent involvement in mendelian and complex diseases. 3. 3. Epigenetic Regulation of Gene Transcription in Hematopoietic Tumors

    Author : Marina Tshuikina Wiklander; Fredrik Öberg; Kenneth Nilsson; Ugo Testa; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; IRF family; ICSBP IRF8; epigenetics; ATRA; TNFα; histone modifications; methylation; transcription; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD;

    Abstract : Epigenetic modifications were shown to play an essential role in tumorigenesis. Epigenetic mechanisms can alter transcription in several ways, through DNA methylation and/or through histone modification. DNA methylation at the TSS (transcriptional start site) has been implicated in tumor development and gene silencing. READ MORE

  4. 4. Regulation of immunoglobulin transcription

    Author : David Liberg; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; N-substituted benzamides; NFkB; transcription; B cells; immunoglobulin; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : Each Ig V-region has its own upstream promoter and the promoter of a mature Ig gene is thereby selected during the V(D)J recombination process. Upon comparison, it is evident that only one transcription factor binding site, the octamer, is preserved within all promoters. READ MORE

  5. 5. Gene regulation by Early B-cell Factor (EBF)

    Author : Peter Åkerblad; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serology; Immunology; B-lymphocytes; Differentiation; Transcription; EBF; Gene regulation; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : In this study we aimed at defining genes that are controlled by Early B-cell Factor (EBF), that could explain the severe block in B-cell development observed in EBF-/- mice. The fact that EBF appears to be important for the transcriptional control of genes encoding proteins in the pre-B and B-cell receptor complex implied to us that EBF could be a common regulator of other components in the pre-B and B-cell receptor.
