  2. 2. Systems biology techniques show high prevalence of post-translational regulation in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis PCC 6803

    Author : Jan Karlsen; Elton Paul Hudson; Martin Hagemann; KTH; []
    Keywords : systems biology; sustainable development; omics; ribosome profiling; RNA sequencing; proteomics; genetic engineering; bioproduction; cyanobacteria; gene regulation; metabolism; translational regulation; post-translational regulation; bioinformatics; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Earth's climate has been upset by carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from human activities and the use of fossil resources. To prevent catastrophic events on the environment and on civilizations, we urgently need to develop alternative solutions that utilize renewable resources. READ MORE

  3. 3. Genetic regulation of autoimmune neuroinflammation

    Author : Kristina Becanovic; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MS; EAE; QTL; gene regulation; linkage analysis;

    Abstract : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a complex disease characterized by inflammation and demyelination in the central nervous system (CNS), causing neurological deficits. Although there is an increased familial aggregation rate and evidence for a genetic influence on disease susceptibility, environmental factors are also of importance. READ MORE

  4. 4. Platelet monoamine oxidase : From genetic regulation to behavior

    Author : Håkan Garpenstrand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; monoamine oxidase; platelet; personality; CNS; serotonin; dopamine; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; medicinsk farmakologi; Medical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : Genetic and environmental factors contribute to the development of personality and vulnerability forpsychiatric disorders. The activity of monoamine oxidase in platelets (trbc-MAO), which is mainlygenetically determined, correlates to personality traits such as sensation-seeking and impulsiveness, andlow trbc-MAO activity is more common in patients with type 2 alcoholism. 5. 5. Cytochrome P-450 in Drosophila melanogaster : activity, genetic variation and regulation

    Author : Inger Porsch-Hällström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The cytochrome P-450 enzyme system in the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, was shown to be inducible, to consist of several isozymes and to have the capacity to metabolize a variety of substrates, thus resembling the corresponding mammalian system. These similarities strengthens the value of Drosophila test systems for the detection of indirect carcinogens and mutagens. READ MORE
