16. Analysis of genetic variations in cancer
Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to apply recently developed technologies for genomic variation analyses, and to ensure quality of the generated information for use in preclinical cancer research.Faster access to a patients’ full genomic sequence for a lower cost makes it possible for end users such as clinicians and physicians to gain a more complete understanding of the disease status of a patient and adjust treatment accordingly. 17. Implications of Local Puumala Hantavirus Genetics and Epidemiology for Diagnostics and Vaccine Development
Abstract : Puumala viruses, a member of the Hantavirus genus in the Bunyaviridae family, are enveloped by a lipid bilayer and possesses a tripartite single stranded RNA genome with negative polarity. The hantaviruses encode four proteins: a nucleocapsid protein (N), two membrane spanning glycoproteins (GN and GC) and a RNA dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp). READ MORE

18. Genetic organization of encapsulated and non-encapsulated Haemophilus influenzae strains. Analysis of the glpTQ and 23S rRNA operons
Abstract : Encapsulated Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) and non-encapsulated H. influenzae (NTHi) are important pathogens causing invasive and mucosal infections in children. A 42 kDa surface-exposed lipoprotein, protein D, has been found to be a potential virulence factor of NTHi. READ MORE

19. Cytochrome P450 Enzymes in Bile Acid Biosynthesis and Fatty Acid Metabolism : Studies on Members of the Porcine CYP4A and CYP8B Subfamilies
Abstract : The present investigation is devoted to studies on porcine members of the cytochrome P450 4A (CYP4A) and CYP8B1 subfamilies, which are involved in bile acid biosynthesis and fatty acid metabolism. Hyocholic acid is considered to fulfil the requirements for trihydroxy bile acids in the domestic pig (Sus scrofa) in the absence of cholic acid. READ MORE

20. Antimicrobial potential of Geobacillus sp. ZGt-1 isolated from Zara hot spring in Jordan : Piecing the puzzle of the antagonistic activity of a novel bacterial strain
Abstract : The problem of antibiotic resistance is rising continuously, creating a warning signal that calls for finding alternatives. Not only that, but there is also a rising demand for natural food preservatives. The pharmaceutical and food industry sectors are working on fulfilling these needs. This thesis is exploring possible solutions to these issues. READ MORE
