  2. 2. Quantitative controls on the routing of supraglacial meltwater to the bed of glaciers and ice sheets

    University dissertation from University of Aberdeen, UK : University of Aberdeen

    Author : Caroline Clason; [2012]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Glaciers Greenland Moulins Supraglacial Crevasses Modelling; geografi med naturgeografisk inriktning; Geography; Physical Geography; Hydrology; hydrologi;

    Abstract : The influence of seasonal influx of supraglacial meltwater on basal water pressures and consequent changes in ice surface velocity has been a focus of research spanning over three decades, particularly focussing on alpine glaciers. Now, with increased recognition for a need to better include glacial hydrology within models of ice dynamics and ice sheet evolution, the ability to predict where and when meltwater is delivered to the subglacial system is paramount, both for understanding the dynamics of alpine glaciers, and of large Arctic ice masses. 3. 3. Plant species diversity patterns in a Swedish rural landscape : effects of the past and consequences for the future

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Stockholm University

    Author : Sara A. O. Cousins; Stockholms universitet.; [2001]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Plant species richness in rural landscapes is threatened as grassland management ceases or changes, and as many remaining semi-natural grasslands are becoming increasingly fragmented. This thesis is a study of plant species diversity in a rural landscape in south-eastern Sweden, and its relationship to management history and landscape pattern. READ MORE

    Abstract : This thesis presents a palaeoglaciological study aimed to determine the location, geometry and temporal evolution of palaeo-ice streams of the north-easternmost Laurentide Ice Sheet. The work was accomplished through the geomorphological interpretation of satellite imagery over 3. READ MORE

  5. 5. Cross-scale perspectives on heterogeneity in Swedish boreal forests

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Department of Physical Geography and Quaternary Geology, Stockholm University

    Author : Sofia Eriksson; Stockholms universitet.; Södertörns högskola.; [2011]

    Abstract : Maintaining species diversity, ecosystem functioning, and socioeconomic values requires continued ecosystem heterogeneity across scales. This thesis aims to bridge gaps between ecological theory, environmental goals, and practical application of sustainable forest management needed to maintain such heterogeneity. READ MORE
