  1. 11. The Sun, Space Weather and Effects

    Author : Magnus Wik; Fysiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; solar magnetism - solar indices - space weather - solar wind - solar dynamo - geomagnetic activity - wavelet analysis - neural networks - geomagnetically induced currents;

    Abstract : The Sun and the solar magnetic activity is responsible for a variety of effects in space and on the Earth. High energy radiation and charged particles are constantly being emitted from the solar atmosphere interacting with our atmosphere and technological systems in space and on the ground. READ MORE

  2. 12. Space Weather - Solar magnetic variation and its impact on Earth's atmosphere

    Author : Fredrik Boberg; Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; klimatologi; kartografi; pedology; Physical geography; marklära; geomorphology; climatology; cartography; space weather - solar magnetism - solar wind - geomagnetic activity- North Atlantic Oscillation - climate change - neural networks- wavelet analysis; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; Astronomy; space research; cosmic chemistry; Astronomi; rymdvetenskap; kosmisk kemi; Fysicumarkivet A:2003:Boberg;

    Abstract : A solar magnetic field is continuously being created in the solar interior. As the field evolves outward through the solar atmosphere and into the enveloping heliosphere, it causes effects on a wide range of temporal and spatial scales. READ MORE

  3. 13. How does O+ outflow vary with solar wind conditions?

    Author : Audrey Schillings; Hans Nilsson; Rikard Slapak; Lars-Göran Westerberg; Christopher Cully; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Atmosfärsvetenskap; Atmospheric science;

    Abstract : The entire solar system including Earth is enveloped in a region of space where the Sun’s magnetic field dominates, this region is called the heliosphere. Due to this position in the heliosphere, a strong coupling exists between the Sun and our planet. READ MORE

  4. 14. High altitude ion heating observed by the Cluster spacecraft

    Author : Martin Waara; Hans Nilsson; Kristina Lynch; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Space physics; Rymdfysik; rymd- och plasmafysik; Space and Plasma Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with heating of outowing oxygen ions at high altitude above the polar cap using data from the Cluster spacecraft. oInospheric plasma may flow up from the ionosphere but at velocities which are low enough that the ions are still gravitationally bound. For the ions to overcome gravity, further acceleration is needed. READ MORE

  5. 15. Brain Emotional Learning-Inspired Models

    Author : Mahboobeh Parsapoor; Bertil Svensson; Urban Bilstrup; Christian Balkenius; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this thesis the mammalian nervous system and mammalian brain have been used as inspiration to develop a computational intelligence model based on the neural structure of fear conditioning and to extend the structure of the previous proposed amygdala-orbitofrontal model. The proposed model can be seen as a framework for developing general computational intelligence based on the emotional system instead of traditional models on the rational system of the human brain.
