  1. 16. Towards an integrated ecology through mechanistic modelling of ecosystem structure and functioning

    Author : Thomas Hickler; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pedology; cartography; climatology; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi; geomorphology; Physical geography; integrated ecology; plant hydraulic architecture; climate change; CO2 fertilisation effect; biogeography; biogeochemistry; vegetation dynamics; ecosystem modelling;

    Abstract : Plant physiology, population dynamics and the structure and functioning of ecosystems are closely interrelated. However, these processes are often investigated independently within different subdisciplines of ecology. READ MORE

  2. 17. The Ups and Downs of the Holocene: Exploring Relationships between Global CO2 and Climate Variability in the North Atlantic Region

    Author : Catherine Jessen; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marklära; geomorfologi; climatology; klimatologi; rapid climate change; Holocene climate; atmospheric CO2 concentrations; geochemical proxy indicators; Paleobotanik; palynology; Geology; palynologi; fylogeni; geomorphology; fysisk geografi; Geologi; physical geography; kartografi; pedology; cartography; phylogeny; Palaeobotany; stomatal frequency; lake sediments;

    Abstract : This thesis aimed to examine the relationship between climate and atmospheric CO2 concentrations through rapid climate changes during the Holocene. Climate was reconstructed using high-resolution, radiocarbon dated, lake sediment geochemical proxies (magnetic susceptibility, loss-on-ignition, total carbon/nitrogen/sulphur determinations and biogenic silica), vegetational reconstruction (pollen analysis) and stomatal frequency based CO2 reconstructions. 3. 18. Urban Design and Outdoor Thermal Comfort in Warm Climates. Studies in Fez and Colombo

    Author : Erik Johansson; Boende och bostadsutveckling; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; marklära; geomorfologi; Fysisk geografi; climatology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; Physical geography; Urban planning; Urban design; Urban climate; Tropical areas; Thermal comfort; Sri Lanka; Planning regulations; Morocco; Microclimates; Land-use; Fez; Humid tropics; Colombo; Developing countries; Climatic design; Climate; Arid zones; Built environment; Physical planning; kartografi; klimatologi; Town and country planning; Stads- och glesbygdsplanering; Fysisk planering;

    Abstract : In many developing tropical countries, rapid urban growth leads to several problems, including increased thermal stress. This has negative consequences for people's health and well-being, and affects social and commercial outdoor activities negatively. READ MORE

  4. 19. Water resources in Iceland - Impacts of climate variability and climate change

    Author : Jona Finndis Jonsdottir; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; marklära; pedology; cartography; climatology; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; geomorphology; runoff map; projection of future runoff; Environmental studies; Miljöstudier; Physical geography; hydrological modelling; trends; climate change; climate variability; Iceland; water resources; offshore technology; soil mechanics; Väg- och vattenbyggnadsteknik; kartografi; klimatologi; Civil engineering; hydraulic engineering;

    Abstract : Hydropower is the main source of electricity production in Iceland. In 2005, 80.8% of all electricity was generated by hydropower (7015 GWh). Hydropower production is affected both by variations and changes in discharge. READ MORE

  5. 20. Geophysical Applications of Vegetation Modeling

    Author : Jed O Kaplan; Biologiska institutionen; []
