    Abstract : U-pipe Borehole Heat Exchangers (BHE) are widely used today in ground source heating and cooling systems in spite of their less than optimal performance. This thesis provides a better understanding on the function of U-pipe BHEs and Investigates alternative methods to reduce the temperature difference between the circulating fluid and the borehole wall, including one thermosyphon and three different types of coaxial BHEs. 2. 2. Risk Estimation of Groundwater Drawdown in Subsidence Sensitive Areas

    Author : Jonas Sundell; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; uncertainty quantification; urban hydrogeology; pore pressure reduction; subsidence; geostatistics; groundwater leakage; soft soil; groundwater drawdown; spatial variability; settlement; probabilistic; risk assessment;

    Abstract : Groundwater drawdown induced ground subsidence is a severe problem in many regions around the world. Leakage of groundwater into a sub-surface construction, resulting in drawdown and subsequent subsidence, can lead to immense damage costs on buildings and installations in urban areas. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sedimentation and Its Challenge for Sustainability of  Hydraulic Structures : A Case Study of Mosul Dam Pumping Station

    Author : Mohammad Ezz-Aldeen Mohammad; Sven Knutsson; Nadhir Al-Ansari; Jan Laue; Rafid Al Khaddar; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Abstract : A successful management and operation of water resources projects are essential to maintain their functions. Dams and reservoirs are one of the largest worldwide infrastructures. They serve one or more functions; reliable store and release of water for different purposes, hydropower generation and   flood and draught controls. READ MORE

  4. 4. Geotechnical risk management using the observational method

    Author : Mats Tidlund; Stefan Larsson; Johan Spross; Håkan Stille; Jan Bröchner; KTH; []

    Abstract : The research presented in this thesis addresses several aspects of loading operations inunderground mines, in particular tools and equipment selection. It also addresses the flexibilityof the fleet when subject to substantial disturbances, such as ore pass loss, and proposes integration of the scheduling system with discrete event simulation.
