  1. 1. On Probability in Geotechnics. Random Calculation Models Exemplified on Slope Stability Analysis and Ground-Superstructure Interaction

    Author : Claes Alén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; random; creep; slope stability; calculation; interaction; design; limit state; probability; statistics; geotechnics;

    Abstract : The thesis deals with uncertainty in calculation modelling. Emphasis is put on the design state. Design is a chain of decisions under uncertainty. A probabilistic approach is used to describe the uncertainty and calculations as a way to reveal the uncertainty. READ MORE

  2. 2. Soil improvement based on environmental geotechnics : environmental and geotechnical aspects of drainage of redox-sensitive soils and stabilisation of soils with by-products

    Author : Josef Mácsik; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : I avhandlingen behandlas Miljögeotekniska problem som "dränering av redox-sensitiva jordar", "blockstabilisering av sulfidjord och torvjord" och " undersökning av nya vägmaterial". - Miljöproblem, kopplat till dränering och/eller urgrävning av redox-sensitiva jordar, som järnhaltiga moräner och sulfidjordar, behandlas i denna avhandling. 3. 3. Beyond the deterministic approach - on the feasibility of data assimilation methods in geotechnics

    Author : Amardeep Amavasai; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Embankment; Uncertainty analysis; Data Assimilation; soft soils;

    Abstract : The surge in economic and social development has resulted in significant challenges, especially for linear physical infrastructure. A substantial part of the ageing physical linear infrastructure has been built on problematic soils and often have poorly documented foundation solutions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Robust preconditioned iterative solution methods for large-scale nonsymmetric problems

    Author : Erik Bängtsson; Maya Neytcheva; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Scientific Computing; Beräkningsvetenskap;

    Abstract : We study robust, preconditioned, iterative solution methods for large-scale linear systems of equations, arising from different applications in geophysics and geotechnics.The first type of linear systems studied here, which are dense, arise from a boundary element type of discretization of crack propagation in brittle material. 5. 5. On modelling of slope stability in sensitive clay

    Author : Carolina Sellin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; constitutive modelling; mobilisation of shear strength; destructuration; slope stability; anisotropy; sensitive clay; rate dependence;

    Abstract : The stability of natural slopes is a global problem, with the number of landslides and the associated socioeconomic losses increasing, as a result of the global trend of urbanisation, deforestation and changed weather patterns. The available methods for identifying potential failure modes and assessing the stability, however, overly simplify the modelled soil behaviour within a slope, which might lead to unnecessary mitigation measures or non-conservative results.
