  1. 1. Seeking the faint extremes : Detection and characterisation of extragalactic soft-spectrum gamma-ray sources and exploring methods to enhance their detection with machine learning in the 50 GeV-50 TeV energy range

    Author : Tomas Bylund; Yvonne Becherini; Gilles Henri; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; GeV gamma-rays; TeV gamma-rays; AGN; blazar; deep learning; observational high-energy astronomy; Astroparticle Physics; Astropartikelfysik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with an observational study of Blazars, strong gamma-ray sources with Very High Energies (VHE) located far outside our Galaxy. Blazars are a class of galaxies that contain a supermassive black hole that is actively consuming large quantities of matter, a process that results in the liberation of tremendous amounts of energy that then powers the emission of huge bulks of charged particles that get accelerated almost to the speed of light. 2. 2. Impedance and Instabilities in the MAX IV 3 GeV Ring

    Author : Galina Skripka; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Collective effects; geometric impedance; resistive wall impedance; wakefields; particle tracking; harmonic cavity;

    Abstract : To ensure the beam with an ultralow emittance and high current the possible effects deteriorating the beam stability must be investigated. When ultrarelativistic particles travel in the vacuum chamber they induce electromagnetic fields which can act back on them and the following particles. READ MORE

  5. 5. Charged particle multiplicities in p̄p reactions 540 GeV C.M. energy

    Author : Barbro Åsman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Antiproton-proton reactions at a centre of mass energy of 540 GeV are studied. The results were obtained using the UA5 detector installed at the CERN SPS Collider.The pseudorapidity (-n) distribution for non single-diffractive events is presented and compared to ISR data. READ MORE
