1. Cell response to imaging contrast agents suggested for atherosclerotic plaque imaging
Abstract : Oxysterols are the major cytotoxic components of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (OxLDL) that accumulate in atherosclerotic plaques. Their uptake by macrophages ensue foam cell formation, atherogenesis and plaque progression. READ MORE

2. Intestinal cell kinetics : modulation caused by age, gender and microbial status in rats and mice : an experimental study in germfree, conventional, Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG and Clostridium difficile monoassociated animals
Abstract : Mammals living in symbiosis with microbes create conventional organisms. The interactions or cross-talks that continuously occur demonstrate how microbes may influence on series of parameters, including intestinal cell kinetics and mucosal morphology. READ MORE

4. Modern Artificial Recharge Plants : Combining chemical flocculation with aquifer recharge
Abstract : Water supply security is increasingly becoming a challenge worldwide. Surface waters, which are often used for drinking water production, have experienced an increase in natural organic matter (NOM) and frequency of algae blooms. Water quantity is also an issue due to increasing populations and potable water demand. READ MORE

5. Functional analysis of the -1087 single nucleotide polymorphism in the IL-10 promoter region
Abstract : Interleukin (IL) 10 is recognized as a pro-inflammatory cytokine that promotes B cell proliferation. The objectives of the present series of studies were to analyze (i) differences in transcription factor binding to the -1087 IL-10 gene polymorphism in B cells, (ii) the influence of the A to G nucleotide transition on IL-10 and Sp1 gene expression in B cells, (iii) differences in Sp1 expression in periodontitis lesions from GG and AA genotype subjects and (iv) epigenetic modifications around the -1087 site and their influence on IL-10 gene expression.
